Food Scoops: New and Buzzing Singapore Restaurants In February 2024
New Restaurants
Hey Kee
A new exciting addition to the east, the newly opened Hey Kee restaurant is easily the closest Hong Kong dining ambience you can get in Singapore right now. Hey Kee is inspired by Hong Kong’s famed ‘dai pai dong’ experience and its vintage interior design is unmistakable the moment I saw its entrance. The restaurant occupies the space at the former Singapore Badminton Hall, a heritage gazetted site along Old Airport Road. [Read more here…]

Ginkyo By Kinki
One Holland Village is the hottest new dining spot in the west right now and Ginkyo By Kinki is one new restaurant which opened just last month. By the people behind Kinki Restaurant + Bar, Ginkyo by Kinki is a modern Japanese bistro inspired by the Icho Matsuri ‘Ginkgo Festival’ in Tokyo, and is designed as a space where every day is a festival of flavours and friendship. It is a casual setting with a bar counter where you can have drinks and small bites, a main dining hall and pets-friendly outdoor seats. [Read more here…]

Araya
One of the hottest new restaurants to open in Singapore last quarter is Araya, the first fine-dining South American restaurant in Singapore with a focus on Chilean South Pacific cuisine featuring indigenous and Japanese ingredients. Araya is the latest addition to the Culinary Arts Group of restaurants which also boasts Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant Hamamoto and another of my favourite open-fire grill restaurant Revolver, both are situated along Tras Street. Located within Mondrian Singapore Duxton, the restaurant is a cosy 30-seater space helmed by Michelin-starred chef Francisco Araya and chef Fernanda Guerrero. [Read more here…]

Chef Chan’s Private Dine
Located within the same space as Indocafe Peranakan Dining in a colonial bungalow at Scotts Road, Chef Chan’s Private Dine is a relatively new restaurant in a restaurant concept. There are only two tables in two private rooms which can accommodate up to 16 guests, though the restaurant is still working out on the flexibility of guests being seated at the main dining hall of Indocafe Peranakan Dining as well. Abura Kappo
While Hashida Singapore has been around for a decade, the Japanese omakase restaurant located along the buzzing Amoy Street unveiled a new concept last December, Abura Kappo. Sharing the same entrance as Hashida Singapore, Abura Kappo is a new restaurant-in-restaurant concept, where helming chef Kenjiro “Hatch”Hashida plays on his creative juices to design a menu and concept bound by the element of oil. Song Yue Taiwan Cuisine
Leisure Park Kallang is not a mall I frequent often but the addition of Song Yue Taiwan Cuisine which opened this January is an exciting one. Located on level one of the mall, the Taiwanese restaurant in Singapore is a spacious 120-seater, with a minimalist interior with natural wood and stone elements, as well as Chinese paintings. The concept of Song Yue Taiwan Cuisine is not the typical Taiwanese street food, but rather an extensive menu which boasts a line-up of fine produce-driven 台 湾 料 理, so you can expect elevated home-cooked dishes here. Fireplace by Bedrock
Opened last December in the new One Holland Village as Ginkyo By Kinki, I checked out the newly opened Fireplace by Bedrock, an extension of the Bedrock brand with a focus on open-fire cooking. The space of Fireplace is spacious with a main dining room as well as a pet-friendly, 34-seat shaded outdoor terrace. The dining ambience of Fireplace is more relaxed vibe as compared to Bedrock, where you can expect light timber tabletops, leather chairs and a caramel leatherette banquette seating.
