New Restaurants

Choon Hoy Parlor
Choon Hoy Parlor took over the space of what used to be The Masses (which has relocated to Capitol) and is by Chef Dylan Ong where the name is an ode to Chef Dylan’s mum. The retro vibes space serves Singapore Soul Food, in essence, a celebration of our local heritage through flavours that touch the soul. It consists of recipes from the families of Dylan and his chefs, so you can expect heirloom and hawker dishes done in a contemporary way. The Ayam Goreng Berempah (S$15.90/6 pcs) and CHP x Jelebu Signature Dry Laksa V2.0 (S$18.90) are some standouts for us. GU:UM
An exciting new addition to the buzzing Keong Saik enclave, the newly opened GU:UM (which means ‘to grill’ or ‘to cook over fire’) is a Korean-touched contemporary grill concept by NAE:UM Group. GU:UM is not a Korean BBQ restaurant. Instead, you can expect Korean flavours in their dishes with a contemporary twist, where the dishes are prepared and cooked in an open kitchen. Standout dishes for us on the a la carte menu include the Yukhwae Jeon (S$32), a potato ‘jeon’ pancake topped with a Korean-style hand-chopped beef tartare; Korean Fried Cauliflower (S$26); and for mains, the Iberico Pluma ($118++ per 300g) where you can choose one of the 4 marination choices: galbi, chilli gochujang, or fermented fish sauce or simply salted.

174 Bingo
Another new exciting bakery cafe to the buzzing Joo Chiat, 174 Bingo is located right opposite 808 Eating House, and it is already creating a small wave in the Joo Chiat community since it opened just a week ago. We love the Scandi-wooden rustic space, where the range of pastries and bread are on full display at the counter. Expect options like Plain Croissant, Cardamom Bun, Chicken Pie, Pistachio Tart, and more. There is no fixed menu for now as the team prefers to bake with the flow.    [Read more here…]
