Food Review: Casa Lola At Boon Tat Street | Casual Spanish Restaurant By FOC Group
The Place Located along Stanley Street is a new Spanish restaurant I checked out recently – Casa Lola, the latest concept by the team behind FOC Restaurant. The idea of Casa Lola is to mirror after a rustic Barcelona neighbourhood bodega. The interior is a narrow shophouse setting with warm lighting and exposed brick walls.

The Food Expect a mix of cold and hot tapas, mains and desserts on the menu, I started with some cold tapas dishes – “Salmorejo”, Chilled Tomato Soup, Iberico Ham, Boiled Egg & Croutons (S$14) and Smoked Cantabrico Anchovies with Foie Gras Ganache & Brioche (S$16/2pcs). I am not so much a fan of cold soup, but I did enjoy the anchovies and foie gras brioche which spots a smooth and rich taste.

For hot tapas, the Crab Croquettes with Caviar and Aioli (S$16) is straightforward and easy on the palate, whereas the Crispy Plantain Fritters, with Avocado Cream, Honey & Siracha (S$9/2pcs) is quite a unique combination of avocado cream and honey.

Served tableside, one of my favourite dishes of the evening is the “Huevos Rotos” with King Prawns “Al Ajillo” Rich Garlic Sauce (S$32). Think crisp, golden-fried potatoes capped with a runny fried egg and al ajillo prawns. The staff helped to mix it all up by breaking the yolk and the overall combination and flavours is full of umami.

For mains, I tried their Seasonal Paella with “Dinamita” Rice Molino Roca (Seasonal price, range between S$38-S$68) which uses premium Molino Roca “Dinamita” rice. The texture of the paella is moist though I wish the edges could be crispier and more burnt.

For dessert, I had their Chocolate Cake with Layers of Manjari 66% Dark Chocolate Ganache (S$18) which is a rich ending for chocolate lovers.

Rants It is a tight space where tables are set closely together. There isn’t much space to store bags either.
Will I Return Again? For a casual Spanish meal in the CBD, Casa Lola is an option to check out. That said, the layout is more suited for couples or small groups.
