Food Review: Elijah Pies At Joo Chiat Place | Gorgeous Pet-Friendly Flagship Outlet Cafe
The Place There is always something new at Joo Chiat and I am happy that Elijah Pies has opened at 72 Joo Chiat Place, their new flagship outlet after outposts at Tanjong Pagar Plaza and King George’s Avenue. Elijah Pies started out twelve years ago where husband and wife duo specialise in pies – sweet and savoury – where their Joo Chiat space is gorgeous, restored Peranakan shophouse.
For a full list of cafes to check out in Joo Chiat, here is a full listicle.

Designed in collaboration with Nice Projects, the building’s façade is given a new splash of navy blue, where its interior is contemporary with outdoor pet-friendly seats as well.

The interior space is also well-thought out, as it features a section which can double up as a private dining corner, as well as a 10-seater communal table with a lazy susan.

For solo diners or couples, the best seats in the house for me are the small tables beside the window where you can sip coffee and enjoy the sights of vibrant Joo Chiat.

The Food The main highlight of the Joo Chiat flagship store are some outlet exclusive items such as their savoury “Pizza Pies”. Other than that, you can pretty much expect similar items as their Tanjong Pagar outlet where there is a wide selection of savoury pies, dessert pies, coffee, and a craft mocktail menu.
I love the savoury pies here, having tried it at their Tanjong Pagar outlet previously. The Seaweed Chicken Pie (S$15) is one of the signatures where you get poached chicken in puff pastry. Great and firm texture of the pastry which is buttery enough yet not too rich.

For the Joo Chiat exclusive pizza pie, I had the Truffle Croque (S$24) which comes luxurious black truffle, turkey ham, cheddar bechamel and mozzarella. It is a big portion which I think can be shared between 2-3 pax, just so you can order other flavours to try. I like how well-balanced the overall taste is, where it is not overly cheesy as well.

For chocolate lovers, do not miss the outlet-exclusive Elijah’s Soufflé Pie (S$18) which is baked to order. It is an airy chocolate soufflé which oozes into a molten gianduja hazelnut chocolate.

Another outlet exclusive dessert tart is the new Kaya Toffee Pie (S$9 per slice) which I couldn’t resist trying. I love the local touch here, kaya being a staple ingredient close to many Singaporeans heart. You get a fragrant housemade pandan coconut jam layered over golden gula melaka toffee. While it sounds sweet, I find it very well-balanced in terms of all the components, and this is definitely one of a kind to try for a tart.

I didn’t have any fancy drinks but suffice to say, the Hot Black (S$5) coffee I had is the perfect complement to the tarts I had.
And for pet owners, cafe collaborates with pet bakery Petissier to serve dog-friendly versions of their signature bakes (S$9) made with chicken breast and Chinese yam.
Rants The freshly baked items like the Soufflé Pie will require additional waiting time.
Will I Return Again? Great addition to Joo Chiat, where it is also rare to find such a spacious space for a café. The pies here are delicious, be it sweet or savoury, and it is definitely worth a try.
