The Hotel During my latest trip to Shanghai, I decided to look past the usual tourist-heavy bustle of The Bund and booked a stay at The St. Regis Shanghai Jingan instead on the second leg of my Shanghai trip after staying at The Sukhothai Shanghai. Situated right on West Beijing Road in the heart of the Jing’an District, the immediate vibe when I entered the hotel is classic St. Regis — grand and luxurious where the lobby blends British palatial elegance with traditional Chinese accents. 

It is a busy property, where you can expect to wait for 10-15 minutes for your turn to check in, as the check-in process is surprisingly long and inefficient in my opinion. 

The Room I stayed in the Deluxe King Room (46sqm/495sqft) which is exceptionally spacious for their entry level category. The design leans towards premium marbles and dark woods where highlight for me is the floor-to-ceiling windows which frame up the city skyline which include views of some of the most iconic buildings in Shanghai like the Oriental Pearl Tower. 

The signature St. Regis bedding is comfortable and firm. 

For the marble bathroom, you get a separate bathtub and shower. 

The Facilities There is the 24-hour St. Regis Butler Service if you need anything. 

For fitness, the gym is located at the basement and offers basic machines and weights, though it is quite dated. There is also a yoga room. 

The gym overlooks the indoor pool which is a decent lap design, while the changing rooms offer sauna and steam room facilities. 

The Restaurants Quite a wide range of dining concepts in this property with six distinct restaurants and bars. Notable ones include Social which is their all-day dining restaurant where the breakfast buffet is served; Yan Ting as a signature Cantonese restaurant; The St. Regis Bar with live jazz music in the evenings; The Drawing Room for Afternoon Tea; and more. 

Unfortunately, I did not manage to check out the dining concepts during my stay as I have other plans to check out the Shanghai food scene. 

Rants Check-in process took longer than usual, while amenities like the gym is quite dated. 

Overall Experience The St. Regis Shanghai Jingan scores me for in terms of location and spacious rooms. The fitness centre is quite dated if you are into workouts, and my tip is to try to book a room which scores a view of the city.
