Food Review: Kee’s Restaurant & Bar At 21 Carpenter Street | New Modern Asian Brunch In A Restored Building
The Place Located within heritage boutique hotel 21 Carpenter, Kee’s Restaurant & Bar is a new modern Asian brunch destination located in Singapore’s CBD precinct. Led by newly appointed Head Chef Sujatha Asokan (previously of Quenino), Kee’s daytime menu lends familiar brunch dishes with Singaporean’s touches, drawing on Chef Sujatha’s Chinese-Indian heritage.

In terms of the space, it is located at the lobby level where the seating is more suited for couples and small groups.
The Food I started with Kee’s Big Breakfast (S$32) which is a full breakfast with a Singaporean spin, featuring house-spiced chicken sausage and char siew bacon alongside farm eggs, locally grown mushrooms, soy-pickled cherry tomatoes and grilled sourdough.

The Crossroads Benedict (S$28) is a East-meets-West Benedict with poached eggs and confit salmon on a bagel, lifted by Chinese olive and leek compote, calamansi brown-butter hollandaise, crispy enoki and nori dust.

For something really quite local, look to the Heritage Chicken Curry Shakshuka (S$25) which features slow-cooked heritage chicken curry with baked farm eggs and coriander, along with crispyu coin prata by the side to dip into the curry sauce.

One of the better dishes for me though is the hearty Filet-O-Kees (S$32) which features battered black cod, curry leaf tartare sauce, Asian pickles and crisp straight cut fries by the side.

For sweets, there are options like Bubur Cha Cha French Toast (S$18) where the Kaya-stuffed brioche reimagines bubur cha cha with ube ice cream, caramelised sweet potato, glutinous rice dumplings and a playful touch of makgeolli.

Alternatively, there is also Cham-Misu (S$16) with elements of Teh peng, kopi mascarpone, kahlua and Horlicks, a local Singaporean play on the classic tiramisu.

Rants Prices are on the higher end for brunch fares if I were to compare with other cafes, though it is partly because it is located within a hotel.
Will I Return Again? If you fancy a local Singaporean twist to brunch fares, this is one option to consider which is conveniently located near Clarke Quay MRT station on the North-east line.
