Food Review: Spice Brasserie @ PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road | Balinese BBQ and Seafood Buffet Dinner
The Place At the end of a long work day, sometimes it’s just impossible to decide what to eat. Seafood sounds good, but should we do Japanese? Chinese? Indian? Barbeque? How about someplace with good dessert nearby?
All these #firstworldproblems are real. #thestruggleisreal
From now till 12 September 2015, haul your hungry hippo bellies to PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road, where the newly refurbished Spice Brasserie is rolling out a Balinese BBQ and Seafood Buffet, guaranteed to satisfy your every fresh seafood craving. I know, I know, a Bali-themed buffet ain’t a trip to those pristine beaches, but who can resist a break from the hustle and bustle of work to enjoy some tasty goodies from the happy land of sunshine, waves and chillax good food?
The Food My favourite item hands down is the Grilled Squid. This is lightly grilled to sizzling perfection, with a soft tender chewy texture that I had never mastered during my days at class gatherings over barbeque pits in chalets. We doubled down on two portions of this treat. Must try.
Being a diehard fan of Japanese food, the sashimi was also a go-to station. You will be surprised by the quality of this sashimi, it is comparable to restaurants where you definitely wouldn’t get free-flow of this fish!
Spice Brasserie also hand-makes a range of chilli sauces for this exclusive buffet spread – though the Rantee ain’t a fan of chilli, I set my plates afire and my tastebuds alight with the awesome range of spices – all coupled with endless papadom.
No Bali trip is complete without the signature Babi Guling, and the chef happily shared about his inspiration in pairing this delectable dish with some tenderized, sautéed jackfruit. Yum yum in my tum tum.
Beside the array of fresh seafood that is barbequed for you upon your order at the live station, there is also endless supply of other Balinese goodies like fragrant pineapple rice, rich and creamy coconut gravy overflowing with juicy prawns, and the ever-favourite duck.
Swim your way to goodie heaven with freshly grilled catch of the day – crispy skin and succulent flesh.
Freshly grilled prawns deserve a special mention – we had two full plates. Stat.
From now till 12 September 2015, pop by Spice Brasserie at PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road for the Balinese BBQ and Seafood Buffet! Dinner from Thursday to Saturday is only $78 for two adults, or $25 per child (below 12 years old) and $50 per adult.
Rants The dessert station was rightly filled with durian selections, but not being a fan of durian, I was relegated to making my own muah chee and putting the cookies into the chocolate fondue. The ice-cream selection can also be of higher quality given the relative high standards of the savoury offerings. Overall, the savoury food was great, the dessert was okay.
Will I Return again? Buffets are not know for quality when they are affordable, so for this price it is definitely worth a go with your family and friends!
