Food Review: Poulet | Affordable French Dining for all

The Place After the success of Saveur, affordable French food seems to be the next food marketing buzz words. Indeed, Poulet has enjoyed much popularity in Singapore since it first debut in Bugis+(the former Illuma shopping mall) and I only managed to visit its second outlet at Great World City lately, while its third outlet is slated to open in the newly revamped Chinatown Point soon.

We started off with the ubiquitous French Onion Soup ($5.80) in every French cuisine. I love the thickness of the soup as well as the evident onion aroma. However, it is a pity that the serving is a little too stingy.

The Sauteed Wild Mushrooms ($7.80) is a trio of button, shimeji and king oyster mushrooms coupled with poached egg. I like the combination of mushrooms as I am a mushroom lover. I thought that the poached egg is quite bland, and it did not quite compliment the mushrooms in this dish.

The must try dish here is no doubt the Poulet Roti ($15.80/half), which I will recommend as the size to share for 2 people. The chicken is extremely tender and succulent to my surprise, and I have to specially commend the mushroom sauce which I could not help but lick every single bit off the plate.

Another mains I tried was the Oxtail de Bourguignon ($15.80) with garlic and carrot. The oxtail is very tender and tasty as well even though the portion is quite small.
IMG_8781Rants As with all crowded restaurants, service seems to be compromise and Poulet is no exception. The staff took some time to clear our tables while they also seem to lack some attentiveness. The casual dining concept of Poulet also makes me feel like I was dining in a food court instead of a restaurant.

Will I return again? French food is traditionally expensive to plebeians like me and I totally embrace the concept of affordable French food. The conclusion to Poulet is that the prices are reasonable for its above average food quality but do not expect much of dining ambience.
