Food Review: Drury Lane | Shophouse cafe in Tanjong Pagar [Closed]
The Place Tanjong Pagar is fast becoming the cafe headquarters in Singapore. Just after we got over Department of Caffeine, Drury Lane is one of the newest players to this part of Singapore. It is a 2 storey shophouse cafe located along Tanjong Pagar Road, where there are plenty of seats in both ground level and the second level. The cafe has a simple design with no strong theme in terms of the layout.
The Food In terms of the coffee, it is supplied by Toby’s Estate, similar to The Providore. The house blend varies every week apparently, so it will be good to find out from the barista how is the house blend of the day like. For the brunch menu, there is nothing that stands out in particular, which includes the usual Eggs Benedict and Big Breakfast.
For coffee, we had the Flat White ($4.50) and Iced Brown ($5.50). We feel that the coffee is not intensed enough, which can be subjective. I do not usually add extra shots to my coffee so this should be a fair comparison to other cafes.
As for our brunch, we had the Big 94 ($14) and the Eggs Benedict ($12). The Big 94 is a pretty safe option, which is decently prepared, nothing stands out in particular. My Eggs Benedict, however, was relatively bad. The eggs were not done to the right degree, as evidenced by the flow of the egg yolk.
Rants The food is nothing to shout about as it is average in our opinion. As for the coffee, it seems to lack intensity as compared to the blends from other cafes.
Will I return again? With the influx of cafes in the vicinity, it is difficult for tRP to find a reason to return to Drury Lane.

It seems like the recipe (hurhur) for success is a strong theme and good food? There are so many so-so establishments that struggle to make it. And I wonder when Tanjong Pagar will get saturated of coffee places? 😉

Yeah a strong theme and good food definitely brings people back. With the stiff competition in Tanjong Pagar, only the fittest cafes will survive eventually.
