Food Review: 3 Must Try Restaurants to visit in Taipei
As one of Singaporeans favourite travel destination in Asia Pacific, there is so much to offer in Taiwan . Some love it for its street fashion, others for its pop culture, the scenic mountains, but for tRP it has got to be the food culture! From the night markets to the Taiwanese’s obsession in perfecting every local dish, this country has some of the best Chinese cuisine you can find. If your next trip is to Taipei City, the heart of Taiwan, be sure to visit the following 3 restaurants or live to regret!
Kan Pai (乾杯)
Mark this down, and make sure you add Kan Pai to your itinerary during your visit to Taipei. This casual Japanese BBQ/yakiniku style restaurant takes its food seriously. While it may not be the most affordable, it is definitely worth very dollar spent!
As the restaurant name suggests, down the meats with beer when you are here.
There are various set menu options, which will include raw meats (read: Wagyu Beef), Hot Rice Pots and other BBQ favourites such as Butter Mushrooms and Grilled Salmon! Make sure you call to reserve a seat, especially on weekends, when it can get really crowded.

Yuan Shao (原燒)
Another BBQ restaurant to the list, Taiwanese love of barbeque meats makes this island a 燒肉天堂! Yuan Shao has more value-for-money set menus in comparison to Kan Pai, but don’t expect them to cut themselves any slack on their food quality.
If you are not a beef lover, Yuan Shao offers many different cuts of pork too!
As Yuan Shao only has a handful of branches located in downtown Taipei, do make sure you plan your trip accordingly!

Jin Feng Braised Pork Rice (金峰魯肉飯)
One of Taiwan’s most famous export – Braised Pork Rice! And where better for any tourist to be enjoying this popular local stall evident by the hoards of locals queuing! It’s noisy, it’s hot and tRP wouldn’t really call this a restaurant, but once you start digging in, your palate melts. Nuff said.
Try the other dishes while enjoying the Braised Pork Rice, you ain’t gonna regret it. Slurps!
