Food Review: Kilo at PACT | Asian fusion at Orchard Central

The Place Located in a corner at level two of Orchard Central, Kilo at PACT is a casual dining space, operated as part of the PACT network of retail land F&B space. The casual dining space at Kilo is not particularly huge, with a mix of counter seats and limited stone tables. Interestingly, the name of Kilo is inspired from the nautical signal flag meaning “I wish to communicate with you”. Indeed, we should have more meaningful conversations on the dining table rather than being distracted by our mobile phones.

The Food The brunch menu at KILO at PACT is mainly Asian fusion, quite a diverse choice such as Japanese rice bowls, pancakes, big breakfast or burger. The Japanese rice bowls such as the Donburi Salmon Bowl or Pork Belly Sushi Rice Bowl are the most appealing to me at least. Afterall, I did not come here for the usual brunch fares which are in every other cafes.
IMG_4757eFor something to share, we unanimously decided on the Yuzu Tai Roll ($23) with crab, snapper, tempura flakes and yuzu-truffle dressing. The truffle smell was unmistakable as the plate was served, as we polished off the plate within seconds.
IMG_4771For the mains, the Donburi Salmon Bowl ($18) screams healthy. The vivid colours of the myriad of healthy ingredients is enough reason order this.
IMG_4818eThe Pork Belly Sushi Rice Bowl ($18) has largely the same side ingredients as the Salmon bowl.
IMG_4830e The best part of the Salt & Pepper Short Ribs ($25) is not the beef, but the malasa scrambled eggs and potato strings.
IMG_4848eAlternatively, the Kilo’s Smashburger ($23) is a more sinful choice for those in need of more carbs, packed with double beef patties, cheddar and red onions. I like the brioche bun, but I find the beef patties overly done. Nevertheless, it was still a hearty choice for brunch especially with the fries as sides.

Rants While offering a diverse range of cuisines means more options for diners, the menu seems a little out of focus for me. We were happy with our food but not particularly impressed with any dish.

Will I Return Again? Maybe. But I do hear rave reviews about Kilo at Kallang, the more upscale sister restaurant of the same brand with a different menu. I will choose to check that out in future instead of Kilo at PACT.
