The Place Who doesn’t know Founder Bak Kut Teh? But you will definitely be glad to know that they have now opened a branch at a more accessible location, just steps away from Lavender MRT Station, at the lobby of Hotel Boss! Walk into their new branch and you will be greeted with bright lights, comfortable air-conditioning and yes, still the same old traditional Rou Gu Cha (Bak Kut Teh).
The Food Don’t expect the new Founder’s branch to serve any unorthodox mains, they are (and should) sticking to what they have doing best since 1978. As many of us will be familiar with, the Bak Kut Teh here is the Teochew-style, which showcases the more peppery soup base. I recommend you to go for the Premium Ribs ($11.80), also commonly known as the Long Gu (Dragon Bone), which is the more tender part of the pork meat.
If you are looking for a healthier option here, try the Slice Lean Meat Soup ($7.80). Having the same peppery soup base, this bowl will definitely be a healthier choice.
Yes, we do try to avoid having sinful food all the time, but at Founder’s you must have their Pig’s Trotter ($9.80). That well-seasoned zum, and the tender meats with the jelly-skin, these are to-die for!
For sides, we will always go for this trio, the You Tiao (2.50), Salted Vegetables ($3.80) and Tau Pok ($2 for 2 pcs)! Complete the meal with a bowl of rice, and you are in for a hearty meal.
Rants Part of the restaurant was not well air-conditioned, minimizing comfort while dining here. Fix this problem and it will prove to be an even more comfortable dining environment.
Will I Return Again? Bak Kut Teh is something I have always enjoyed a lot since young, and with Founder’s newly opened outlet at a more accessible location, I am sure I will return for more.
