Hotel Review: PARKROYAL on Beach Road Singapore | Staycation steps away from the Bugis buzz and the Kallang riverside

The Place This may not be the newest hotel on the street, but PARKROYAL on Beach Road Singapore has been quietly revamping its rooms over the past year, with renovation expected to complete by 2017. Just steps away from Bugis and the Sultan Mosque vicinity, you can sneak out for some local bites or shopping – if that’s what you want though. If not, PARKROYAL on Beach Road packs all the facilities you may need, from a fully-equipped gym, to an award wining spa, and with various dining options, including Si Chuan Dou Hua and Plaza Brasserie; there’s just little reasons why you should be heading out.

The Rooms
We checked ourselves into their newly refurbished Premium Room, which took on the neutral grey and light green colours for its decor. Spacious room, totalling 35 sqm, just make very sure your room faces Beach Road to enjoy a greenery-facing, or you can just shut your curtains tight as the other rooms will be facing either the multi-storey carpark or the Pan Pacific Serviced Suites.

The toilet is well-equipped with toiletries by St. Gregory.

If you are checking in here with your laptop, you will be happy to know that a good sized work desk, equipped with Herman Miller chair and a window side couch will give you some conducive place to do some work, or like us, to catch up on some writing.

The Facilities
City-view swimming pool, complete with what’s one of the largest gym I have seen in a city hotel, you can take your pick between chilling out at the pool, or putting some of your muscles to good use. There’s the award winning St. Gregory spa as well, with experience complete with instructor-led classes. Just check their schedule, and you will be moving in cadence in no time.

The hotel is also located just behind the Kallang River, and if you like some outdoor run, just cross the overhead bridge above Nicoll Highway MRT Station, and you will be able to run eastwards to wards the National Stadium or southwards towards the Singapore Flyer. If you fancy a heritage walk, Kampong Glam is right opposite the hotel where there are plenty of dining options.

The Restaurants
We wrote about it before, one of our favourite afternoon tea, Tian Fu Tea Room should be on the to-go place for even the hippest-wannabe. Sipping Chinese Tea, while enjoying some small nips here, while enjoying the tranquillity of the teahouse before the dinner rush – simply therapeutic.

During meal times, just head to one of the two restaurants here, Si Chuan Dou Hua and Plaza Brasserie. And if you are checking into the Orchid suite of rooms here at PARKROYAL, the Club Lounge also serve up bites and drinks during the evening.

Rants Only hitch here was that the breakfast buffet didn’t impress us much, but if you are looking for a simple breakfast while flipping through the Sunday Times, this will do just fine.
