Food Review: The Carvery at Park Hotel Alexandra | The Meat Feast fit for the Carnivore

The Place Located in Park Hotel Alexandra, The Carvery is the resident restaurant in the hotel which specialises in meats, as its name suggests. The restaurant is not huge, but a good cosy size with views of the swimming pool and surroundings at level 7 of the hotel. We couldn’t help but notice the huge roast meat counter and oven the moment we entered the restaurant, which is undoubtedly the centrestage of The Carvery.

The Food For a limited time from 28 September to 22 October 2016, The Carvery is running “The Great Meat Feast” where diners can get to enjoy a wider variety of beef and cuts. Some of the highlights include the Aomori rice beef from Japan (only available on Fridays and Saturdays). The 20 month old cattle from Northern Japan is fed from whole rice plants and fresh spring water from Mount Hakkoda.

The Mayura Full-blood wagyu from Australia is a 500-day chocolate and grain-fed cattle which gives the beef a sweet and nutty nuance. Other beef varieties to expect are the ones from Cape Grim in Tasmania, Zebu in Brazil where the meat is garnered from the highly prized hump of the grass-fed cattle, as well as the more widely known Black Angus from the US. There is a wide selection of condiments to go with the meats such as mustard sauce, truffle butter and red wine sauce, but we enjoyed the beef without any of the condiments where we could appreciate its full and raw flavours best.

Other noteworthy dishes we managed to try from the buffet spread include some of The Carvery’s signature roasts, such as the Rotisserie Chicken, New Zealand Roasted leg of lamb, crispy Pork Knuckle with crackling, Caramelised sweet potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and cooked Salmon fish.

Wine pairing options are also available alongside the meats, from S$14++ per glass or from S$68++ per bottle.

Dessert and seafood choices are limited though, which we didn’t manage to try this time round.

Rants The Carvery is nowhere like The Line or Edge restaurants in terms of hotel buffet selections so this is not the place to mark down if you are expecting a wide International selection. Of course, you are unlikely to like its theme if you are not a huge meat lover.

Will I Return Again? Despite the smaller than usual buffet spread, we left The Carvery satisfied as there is generally good quality across its offerings other than the signature meats. It is somewhat quality over quantity here, and if you do not mind, this is quite a good buffet option to deviate from the usual.

The Great Meat Feast
Sunday to Thursday at S$78++
Friday to Saturday at S$88++
