Food Review: 1-for-1 Steamboat buffet at Peach Garden Thomson Plaza | 4 tier steamboat fit for all (Limited Time)

The Place We visited Peach Garden’s latest outlet at Changi Airport some time back (read our full review here), and were excited to check out their steamboat promotion at its Thomson Plaza outlet. For a limited time till end of this year, Peach Garden Thomson Plaza has a 1-for-1 4 Tier Steamboat A La Carte Buffet priced at S$48++ per person (minimum 4 persons), which we still think is very value for money relative to the heating steamboat competition (Think Hai Di Lao, Beauty In the Pot). The size of the Thomson Plaza outlet is spacious with a pretty conventional Chinese restaurant interior – spacious walkways, round clothed tables and carpeted flooring.

The Food We need to first warn that the buffet spread is extensive. Pacing yourself well with the meats and cooked dishes is probably the only strategy. You can choose from the cooked dishes on the a la carte buffet menu such as fried fish skin, dried chicken with dried chilli and stir-fried bitter gourd with salted egg yolk.

On the 4-tier, the top layer is a small compartment where we can steam some of the dishes such as xiao long bao, prawns and fish. The third layer is simply for keeping your cooked food warm, the second layer is where you can barbeque items like carrot cake  and the first and most important layer is our chosen soup base for the conventional steamboat fashion.

We had the pork bone soup, which was quite tasty in all honesty, though we were quite thirsty towards the end after a long while of continuous sipping the soup. Generally, the selection is very wide in terms of meat, seafood which includes flower crab and prawns, as well as vegetables. The quality is decent, we wouldn’t say it’s the best steamboat around.

Rants Thomson Plaza is not the most convenient location of all. Unfortunately this steamboat offering is only available in this outlet.

Will I Return Again? We are always up for good steamboat. Peach Garden’s version at Thomson Plaza is good for large groups to share in the wide buffet selection. It will definitely be less value for money at the end of the current 1-for-1 promotion, so it is now or never for us.
