Food Review: Tempura TenTen at Raffles City | Tendon with Yuzu Pepper Sauce and Truffle Rice!

The Place Located at the basement of Raffles City, Tempura Ten Ten is the latest tendon restaurant to open in Singapore. The tendon craze was started by Keisuke’s Tendon Ginza Itsuki in 2015, and has since seen many tendon restaurants opening in the last 2 years.

Small space, furnished with simple light brown tones and white walls, the restaurant is located at the far end of the basement, just beside the ever-crowded Din Tai Fung.

The Food You have read it, this place serve up tendon – tempura don. And it does Ramen as well, which if I have not mistaken from my receipt, Tempura Ten Ten should be opened by the same team behind Daikokuya.

Starting with their basic, the Special Tendon (S$13.80) here gets you chicken, prawn, mushroom, and other vegetables. Overall, it was rather appetising, although we wouldn’t mind if the items are less oily. The rice was on the dry side, and unless they change their rice, more of the sauce will be ideal to enjoy this. The tendon set also comes with pickles and Miso soup.

If you are looking to have unagi to go with your tendon, go for the Unatendon (S$19.80). The unagi was rather enjoyable, though it was slightly soggy, since I don’t suppose the eels are prepared ala minute.

To go with the don, you can pick the different sauces, including the Original, Yuzu Pepper and Spicy sauce. Since it was my first time here, I went for the original – nothing to shout about. A fellow diner got the Yuzu Pepper sauce, which was unique but perhaps more as a dip rather than a pour-over kinda sauce. You can also upgrade your normal White Rice to Truffle Rice (S$1).

Other interesting options here includes the Unadon (S$24.80) and the ramen selections, including the unique Yuzu Chashu Ramen (S$14.80) and the original Tonkotsu Chashu Ramen (S$15.80).

Rants There might just be too many tendon restaurants in Singapore right now. So you either have to win it with top-grade quality, or affordable pricing. At TenTen, you get above average tendons at average pricing.

Will I Return Again? If I am in the area, and a tendon craving kicks in, Tempura TenTen will be a worthy option, though I wouldn’t head down specially for it.
