Food Review: Wakey Wakey at The Concourse, Beach Road | Bright and Spacious Cafe Space by Strangers’ Reunion

The Place The café scene in Singapore has slowed down significantly in the past one year and it’s refreshing to learn that new concepts have sprung up this year. Located at The Concourse along Beach Road right beside Le Canele d’Or, Wakey Wakey is a relatively new concept by the team behind Strangers’ Reunion and is currently still in the soft launch phase. The bright and spacious setting is very welcoming, with the interior spotting some raw industrial and wooden touches.

The Food The complete food menu will be available some time in March, while only beverages, cakes and waffles are on the menu at the moment. There are no prices on the menu yet during our visit, so it is purely based on tipping basis.

I started with the Flat White, a medium body which has intense notes.

Matcha lovers will enjoy the chilled Matcha, served in a bottle and cup. The Matcha flavour is very intense with the right proportion of milk for me.

The Buttermilk Waffles with Vanilla bean ice cream and fresh fruits is very good. I enjoyed the light, slightly fluffy texture of the waffle which is delicious.

We also tried one of the cake on display, the Speculoos Cake. Served in a thick and tall slice, the cake is rich in flavour yet it is not too sweet. This has the nod of our approval, even though we are unsure if it is prepared in-house or from an external supplier.

Rants It is a pity we didn’t manage to try the savoury food options which are still in the midst of being finalised.

Will I Return Again? I was quite impressed by the offerings of Wakey Wakey. While the location is not the typical hipster enclave, it makes up for the cosy space and is quite a nice spot to while away the weekend. The food menu should be quite promising and that is probably something I will return for.
