Food Review: Fatburger at Paya Lebar’s recently renamed Kinex Mall | Serving Burgers in California since 1952

The Place Its first branch in Singapore, Fatburger was founded in 1952 in Los Angeles, California, and the burger chain now has presence in more than 20 countries globally. Headquartered in Beverly Hills, the chain is branding itself as having a cult following which includes many Hollywood celebrities, and we are keen to find out if that stamp of approval will get our stomach nodding in agreement too.

Simple decor with both indoor and outdoor seats, reminding you of a casual American diner. The branch at Kinex, or more popularly known by its previous name OneKM, is located on the peripheral of the mall facing the Haig Road. Fatburger has a second branch at Novena’s Velocity, and will be looking to open more branches across the island.

The Food Ordering your burger here is an easy step-by-step flow, first decide how many beef patties to go into your burger, next choose your preferred standard and add-on toppings, and lastly if you want to go for the set menu, which comes with fries and free-flow soft drinks. Beef Patties at Fatburger are made from 80% lean meat and 20% fats, and the meats are always chilled, never frozen meats. Being a fast food, the burgers are rather satisfying with its juicy beef patties and generous toppings, all holding nicely within the wrappers.

For the average folk, just go for the single patty burger, The Original (S$7.90, Set at S$11.90). The burger comes with standard toppings including Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles, Onions, Relish, Mustard, Patty, and Bun. Feel free to exclude any items as you wish, and you can even go for either a Brioche or Wholemeal bun per your liking, or top up S$2.50 for a Gluten Free bun.

At just S$1 per add-on, you get to add more sides into your burger. Choose from Cheese, Eggs, Beef Bacons, Chilli and Onion Rings. Strongly recommending the Onion Rings for that extra crunch. Go for more patties if you crave for that extra meat jus. The XXL Double (S$10.90, Set at S$14.90) will gets you two patties, and if you finish the Ultimate Quad (S$15.90, S$19.90) with four patties, you can permanently be enshrined in the restaurant with a photo of you on display at its Hall of Fame!

For sides, there is a wide selection of fries including Fat Fries (S$3.90), Skinny Fries (S$3.90), Sweet Potato Fries (S$5.90), Chilli Cheese Fries (S$5.90) and my favourite Onion Rings (S$5.90). Frankly the fries are nothing to shout about, although the Onion Rings is quite spot on for me. Crisp on the outside, the onions still retaining its moisture.

You get to enjoy selections from Buffalo’s Express, a brand managed by the same folks behind Fatburgers. Choose between Bone-in Wings, Boneless Wings and Chicken Tenders, which are finished with sauces including Lemon Pepper, to BBQ, to Cajun and the hottest Death Valley. Unfortunately the wings were slightly on the dry side, hopefully it gets better on other days.

Rants Not the most spacious of space.

Will I Return Again? As a fast food concept, we enjoyed our burgers. None of the sides left an impression though, except its Onion Rings.

This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
