Food Review: Rolina Traditional Hainanese Curry Puffs | S$1.50 Michelin Bib Gourmand snack in Tanjong Pagar

The Place I am quite familiar with Tanjong Pagar, but I have never heard of Rolina Traditional Hainanese Curry Puffs until the most recent 2018 Michelin Bib Gourmand announcement. The humble stall is located at level two of Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market and Food Centre, a popular lunch spot on weekdays due to the office crowd and residents in the vicinity.

The Food As one of the new entrant of the Bib Gourmand Street Food establishments, there are two main types of curry puffs here – Sardine and Curry Chicken & Egg, at S$1.50 each. We tried each flavour, where the curry puff skin here is relatively thin as compared to other versions I am familiar with. The size is relatively petite, and while I prefer curry puffs with more crispy skin, this version is not that crispy. In comparison, I enjoyed J2 Famous Crispy Curry Puff at Amoy Street Food Centre more.

For the Sardine puff, I enjoyed it more than the Curry Chicken & Egg, with a tinge of spiciness and a pronounced sardine flavour.

Rants The size of the curry puff is small and I would have preferred it to be more crispy in texture.

Will I Return Again? If I am in the vicinity, Rolina Traditional Hainanese Curry Puffs is worth a try for a quick snack. I wouldn’t head down specially for it though.
