Food Review: Chicken House at Upper Thomson Road | Old School Kampong Chicken Rice Store

The Place Located at Upper Thomson Road, Chicken House is a familiar name for those who live in the vicinity, famous for its kampong chicken. The eatery is located amongst the shop house along the main road, where the new MRT station on the Thomson line will be right in front. The space exudes an old school vibe, nothing fanciful but old is gold.

The Food Prices are quite reasonable, where you can get one person’s portion of chicken rice for S$4.20. It is not exactly a restaurant setting where I want to linger for long after my meal, so I would say it’s more of a eat and go place.

I had both the chicken breast and chicken thigh to give both cut a try, where the latter is quite tender and I enjoyed it. The chicken breast meat is usually not my favourite part, although the meats here were moist and soft.

Meat aside, the rice lacks the aroma that I was expecting. Frankly, I had high expectations of the chicken rice here, having heard raving reviews of Chicken House for many years. Despite lamenting how long it took me to give this chicken store a try, the rice here did not quite cut it for me.

Rants The service at Chicken House was not at its best during our visit, shall not elaborate further on here though.

Will I Return Again? While the chicken is good, the overall experience for me at Chicken House is quite underwhelming. There are other chicken rice options in Singapore, doubt I will return for this.
