Snippets: New and Buzzing Singapore Restaurants in April 2019

New Restaurants

Charcoal-Grill & Salad Bar Keisuke
Do we need another Keisuke concert? Apparently yes, as Keisuke Group’s 19th outlet is at Paya Lebar Square, known as Charcoal-Grill & Salad Bar Keisuke. The restaurant is located at the basement of the mall, directly linked to Paya Lebar station. As with most Keisuke concerts, the 33-seater space is not huge, where you can expect a queue during peak hours. This new concept is all about Sumiyaki, also known as charcoal grill, with a huge focus on charcoal grilled Japanese fishes at affordable prices. The 18th restaurant also recently-opened in the same mall, Tendon Ginza Itsuki, which is the second of its concept. It seems like 2019 is an expansion year for the group, where Omurice Keisuke opened in Bugis+in January. [Read more here…]

Jiak (家) Private Home Dining
Located in Joo Chiat, Jiak is a relatively new private home dining concept in a charming duplex apartment in the east of Singapore. The name Jiak is a play on dialect which means home, and there is also a resemblance in terms of pronunciation as ‘Chiat’ in Joo Chiat. The Jiak2gather concept is owned and run by Chef Anon Foo, who seeks to offer home cooked Chinese dishes in a cosy atmosphere. Priced at S$70 nett for seven courses, the menu is omakase style so it was a surprise for me as to what exactly I was going to have. [Read more here…]

Botany by Dazzling Cafe
Dazzling Café may be closed for now in Singapore but there is a new concept Botany by Dazzling Café . Located by the river in Robertson Quay close to Beast & Butterflies, Botany is run by the same team behind Dazzling Café, Serene, Cassandra and local actress Julie Tan who is also Cassandra’s cousin. Characterized by marble table top and lush interior in line with the name, the restaurant and café’s interior is cosy with full glass pane, where you can expect a good amount of natural light in the day. Olivia Restaurant
Located along Keong Saik Road, Olivia Restaurant & Lounge is a relatively new Barcelona restaurant housed within the gorgeous space of KeSa House. KeSa House is a lifestyle concept which took over the space of a previous hotel, where restaurants such as The Guild and Pasta Bar are also located in. Olivia is run by Chef and Co-founder Alain Devahive, previously from the team at the now-defunct Catalunya, named after Chef Alain’s daughter. [Read more here…]

51 Soho
Opened merely a few weeks ago, 51 Soho is a brand new concept at 51 Telok Ayer by the team behind one of my favourite restaurants on Telok Ayer, Birds of A Feather and Halcyon and Crane in Paragon. The space of the restaurant is split into indoor and outdoor seatings, with a focus on contemporary western dishes where you can expect to find subtle hints of Szechuan influences in the dishes. With its location right in CBD, the name Soho also draws reference to the commercial and residential aspects of the precinct it is located in. [Read more here…]

Cafe Leitz
If you are into photography, the iconic Leica store at Raffles Hotel should be familiar to you. The German luxury camera brand reopened its doors in December last year at one of the most iconic hotels in Singapore, spotting a brand new space including Cafe Leitz. [Read more here…]

New Restaurants opening at Jewel Changi Airport
The latest shopping mall to open in Singapore, Jewel Changi Airport is set to be more than just a mall. With amenities catering for not just local shoppers, Jewel as they have described is where “Singapore meets the world, and the world meets Singapore”. Other than the much anticipated Rain Vortex, Canopy Park and Forest Valley in the mall, the dining options are creating much hype since last year with many firsts in Singapore. [Read more here]

Buzzing Restaurants

Mad about Sucre kicks off 2019 with its Spring menu
One of our favourite patisseries in town launched its new Spring Menu last month, where you can expect a whole new range of savoury and sweet dishes. One new highlight is the Fried Chicken with Caviar, a bold creation which uses tender French pocket along with Russian caviar. Other desserts to expect this season include the Peach, a three layer hand moulded creation of peach, vanilla and pandan jelly.

What to Eat at Pek Kio Market and Food Centre
Located in Farrer Park along Owen Road, this hawker centre has been around for ages since my childhood days. I like to come here occasionally as the ventilation of the space is good, and it is relatively spacious by hawker centre standards. Most importantly, there are a few standouts here which serve good and cheap local delights. Here are some of our top picks! [Read more here…]
