Hotel Review: Swissôtel Merchant Court Swiss Executive Room King | Explore Singapore’s Vibrant Clarke Quay Night Scene at Your Doorstep

The Hotel Located right beside Singapore River, Swissôtel Merchant Court is part AccorHotels and is one of the more prominent hotels in the Clarke Quay precinct. The property was refurbished in the past two years in stages, spotting a more contemporary look from its lobby to the various facilities within. With its central location right beside Clarke Quay MRT, the property is well-connected to various attractions in Singapore, either by public transport or by foot.

The Room I checked into the Swiss Executive Room King, which comes with club access to the Swiss Executive Lounge. The room size is fairly spacious at 30 sqm, including a balcony with a city view.

Some of the room highlights include a Nespresso coffee machine in the room, TWG tea bags, and an ergonomic working chair for those who need to catch up on work.

The bathroom is equally spacious, complete with toiletries from Parovel.

The Facilities The fitness centre is probably my favourite spot in the hotel as it is fully refurbished with new equipment. Located on the same level is the outdoor swimming pool, which is quite busy in the afternoon with sun-chasers. The most fun aspect of the pool is the slide, which is very popular amongst kids, and some adults.

If you want to pamper yourself, you may be keen to check out the hotel’s brand new Pürovel Spa & Sport. I manage to try one of the classic oil massage treatment, and the service is professional and good.

We also checked out the Swiss Executive Lounge, which offer some light bites and alcoholic beverages during the evening cocktail hour. It is a quiet space to enjoy a drink or coffee, or to catch up on news or work.

The Restaurants The all-day dining restaurant in the property is Ellenborough Market Cafe, including breakfast service. The restaurant has not only retained its strong positioning as the go-to Peranakan buffet option in Singapore, and its new revamped interior few years ago also made the dining experience even better due to the use of vibrant colours and modern Peranakan touches. Do read more on our latest review of the restaurant here.

Blue Potato is another dining option, an alfresco dining concept by the pool which serves mainly western fare.

Rants While the fitness centre is renovated, the pool area is fairly dated in terms of design and vibe, though the consolation is that there are ample sundeck chairs where you get the glorious late afternoon sun for a good tan.

Overall Experience For the price, Swissôtel Merchant Court offers a pretty good value if you are looking to visit Singapore, or even as a weekend staycation spot. It is right next to Singapore’s most happening night spot Clarke Quay and easily connected to Orchard Road or Chinatown. Overall, it was a pleasant stay for me.
