The Place Opened since 1977, the Coffee Lounge at Goodwood Park Hotel started offering the Taiwan Porridge menu since 1984 and it is only recently when I had the chance to check out the porridge buffet. The most charming part about the space at Coffee Lounge is its innermost section where you get to enjoy a good dose of natural light in the day, coupled with a high ceiling where you can admire the white pillars of the historic building.

The Food Available for both lunch and dinner, the Taiwan Porridge A La Carte Buffet starts from S$39++ per person, where you get to enjoy unlimited orders from a selection of 30 dishes on the a la carte menu. There is also a dessert spread included, which mainly feature local kuehs, ice cream and cakes.

Unlimited portions of rice and sweet potato porridge or steamed rice are available at S$2.50++ per person.

Some of my favourites include the Fried Chicken with Prawn Paste, which is tastefully done; Mui Choy with Pork, a tender showcase of the pork meat and a classic Taiwanese dish; and the Deep Fried Pomfret with Black Bean Sauce, where the fish is fresh and retains a nice crispy texture on the outside.

Other dishes I had include the Chilled Beancurd in Japanese Soya Sauce and Pork Floss; Fried Omelette with Chye Poh; Stir Fried Eggplant with Minced Chicken; Taiwanese Sausage; and Baby Squids in Sweet Oyster Sauce.

Rants The pricing for such traditional fare is on a high side.

Will I Return Again? The wide selection of dishes is the main draw for me at this Taiwan Porridge Buffet. The quality of the dishes are consistent, and you are really paying for the good dining ambience as well.
