The Place Located on level 1 of Golden Mile Food Centre, Yew Chuan Claypot Rice is a popular hawker stall here which my family visits fairly frequently. The humble stall is managed by a middle-aged couple, and it is hard not to be attracted by the numerous claypots over fire as you walk past the stall. Find a table first, before ordering and making payment at the stall.
The Food The only dish to have here is the Claypot Chicken Rice (S$12/S$18/S$24/S$30) which comes in varying sizes. As a guide, three people can go for the S$18 portion. The usual waiting time is 15 minutes and above.
I had the S$18 portion recently and the claypot rice here is already drizzled with black sauce. That said, feel free to add on more black sauce or oil as you fancy. The most important tip is to mix all the ingredients well.
What I like about the claypot rice here is that the rice has a good char and brunt texture to it in general, which makes it quite fragrant and tasty unlike other versions. The chicken meat is tender, and you get other ingredients like sausage, vegetables and an important component of claypot rice, salted fish. I don’t fancy the taste to be too salty, and the salted fish element in the rice here is not too excessive for me.
Rants The waiting time can get quite long during peak dining hours. Be prepared.
Will I Return Again? For the sense of familiarity and flavour, I will definitely be back. This is a good option to try if you are in the vicinity, and it is reasonably priced too. That said, I still prefer New Lucky Claypot Rice and the only downside is that it is much further for me.
