Food Review: New Lucky Claypot Rice at Holland Drive Market and Food Centre | Pre-order your charcoal-fired Michelin Bib Gourmand Claypot Rice
The Place Located at Holland Drive Market and Food Centre, the popular New Lucky Claypot Rice is on the Singapore’s Michelin Bib Gourmand list since 2017. The stall has been around for more than thirty years including previous locations, before settling at Holland Drive. I visited with a group of friends on a Sunday evening around 5.30pm and it was already quite crowded. The most important tip is to call and pre-order your claypot to minimise waiting time.
The Food The Claypot Rice starts from S$10 for 2 persons, and you can add ingredients for extra S$5. One of the most unique trait of New Lucky Claypot Rice is that it is prepared over charcoal fire which makes the rice more aromatic, hence the longer waiting time. The claypot comes with a good mix of typical ingredients such as chicken, Chinese sausage, salted fish and waxed meat.
You can then add on the dark soya sauce and oil, per your liking!
The first thing I like is the chicken. The chicken meat is very tender, easily one of the best claypot rice chicken meat I have tried.
For the rice, it retains a slightly smoky flavour from the charcoal cooking, with the texture being slightly crispy at certain parts of the pot.
Overall, it is definitely above average and I would rank it higher than Geylang Claypot Rice when it was still at its Geylang location. It has since shifted to Beach Road but I have yet to head down to the new outlet.
Rants The long waiting time if you didn’t pre-order. Expect to wait up to 30-45 minutes without pre-orders.
Will I Return Again? Yes, though a pre-order call is a must. Do head down early too, before it gets too crowded and the wait can be rather long.
