Hotel Review: The Fullerton Hotel Sydney in Australia | Another Historical General Post Office – Fullerton’s First Overseas Property
The Hotel Located in the heart of Sydney, The Fullerton Hotel Sydney took over the space which was previously Westin Hotel. With the change of branding, the historical property now emphasises on delivering hospitality beyond that of a business hotel setting, in the same heritage building which once housed the city’s General Post Office (“GPO”). This will remind guests familiar with the Fullerton brand of its sister property in Singapore, where The Fullerton Hotel Singapore also shares the same history as the formal General Post Office of the island.
Located at No. 1 Martin Place, just beside the Wynyard Light Rail stop or minutes walk to both the Wynyard and Martin Place Train Station, the hotel is right in the midst of the city’s Central Business District and shopping belt.
There is ample natural light which flows into the building in the day, which adds to its charm.
The Room With 416 rooms, the property has rooms located at the tower block and heritage rooms within the former GPO building. We checked ourselves into the Executive Superior King Room, which are located on the higher floors, with guests having complimentary access to the Executive Club lounge.
The spacious 33sqm room gets you a view of the GPO’s clock tower against the busy Sydney streets, where the clock has stood since the mid-20th century.
Admittedly, the finishings in the room was last renovated more than a decade back, though most likely through careful and detailed housekeeping and maintenance, the room is very much in a pristine condition during our visit.
With a study table and lounge chair at the far end of the room, the space is multi-functional for work, leisure and rest.
Guest also get to relax in the bath tub with the blinds optional. Atkinsons bathroom amenities are the choice shower gels for Fullerton Hotel.
We also learnt that the rebranding of the property also saw some additions to the room, including the wireless Bose speakers, and Nespresso Coffee machines, enhancing the stays for a more guest-centric experience.
The Facilities The Fitness Centre at Fullerton Sydney must be one of the most motivating and well-equipped gym I have seen across my years of hotel stays. Spacious with high ceiling, the fitness centre can easily host 10 to 20 gym-goers concurrently. Newly renovated, the facility is definitely state-of-the-art, and we visited here daily during our 2 nights stay.
With access to the Executive Club Lounge, we were here for the daily breakfast and evening canapes.
Located at level 28, you get to see splendid views of the Sydney city skyline while you enjoy sipping your champagne – which is served during both breakfast and evening canapes.
The Restaurants At Fullerton Sydney, the dining concepts are simple and aptly named The Place for their all-day dining restaurant, and The Bar for afternoon tea at the hotel’s lobby.

The Place

The Bar
With Fullerton coming in, the hotel has introduced many Singaporean dishes to the menu too, which you can savour at both dining concepts.
If you are in the vicinity during weekday lunch, or looking for a business lunch option in Sydney, head to The Place for the bento set lunch. You get to choose between three or four course, or go for their other ala carte options which will include items such as Beef Rendang and Laksa.
Rants The main lobby area can get slightly warm during the mid-afternoon when the sun shines brightly into the hallways. Do avoid seats at the dining concepts with the direct sunlight to avoid any discomfort.
Overall Experience We love heritage hotels, particularly the likes of The Fullerton Hotel which took great pains to reinstate such historical buildings. The Fullerton Hotel Sydney ticks the right boxes on many levels, from location, to impressive rooms and facilities, and most importantly, you get to check yourself into a former GPO of the city which you are visiting.
