Food Review: Wado Dining At The Promenade @ Pelikat | Hole-In-The-Wall Modern European Restaurant With 3-Course Set From S$23 Nett

The Place Located at The Promenade @ Pelikat about 5 minutes drive from Kovan, Wado Dining is a relatively new restaurant which showcase Modern European cuisine at affordable prices. The location of Wado Dining is part of a mixed development, and the location is obscure. The space is really small, and can only fit 5 tables where the size of the kitchen is almost the same as the dining area.

The Food With an ala carte menu and set menu, the set menu is the one which caught my eye. A 3-course starts from an affordable S$23 nett, while the cheapest 4-course is S$27 nett. The choice of soup, starter and dessert are the same throughout the different variations of the set, with the exception to the choice of mains.

The Rantee and I both went for the 4-course (price for the 4-course differs depending on which mains you select), and our mains being the Battered Fish (S$27 nett) and Grilled Beef (S$38 nett). The first course is the soup, where I managed to try both the Mushroom Soup and Pumpkin Soup.

The mushroom soup fared much better with some truffle oil, while the pumpkin soup was way too sweet.

Second course is the starter, where we both had Crab Cake with chilli crab mayonnaise.

For mains, the medium-rare Grilled Beef uses Meltique striploin and is served with truffle red wine sauce. The flavour of the beef didn’t live up to its name, as it came across as mediocre. There wasn’t much flavour in the meat unfortunately.

Comparatively, the Battered Fish is definitely a safer bet as it was crispy on the outside and the texture of the fish was good.

For Dessert, there are five options and went for the WADO’s Savoury and Baked Chocolate Tart. The former is a mix of smoked candied Turkey bacon, whipped cream and Vanilla ice cream. It is colourful, not in the way I expected. There isn’t anything I enjoyed here.

The Baked Chocolate Tart fared better, though it is also present in a messy, colourful fashion which doesn’t resonate with me as well in terms of presentation. Served with mixed berry compote and Vanilla ice cream, the chocolate lava did flow nicely.

Rants Due to the small space, there is a dining time limit as the restaurant breaks it into different sessions, for example 6pm to 7:30pm, and so on. The pace of serving can therefore be quite rushing.

Will I Return Again? While a 3-course meal meal from S$23 nett sounds like an amazing deal, I struggle to find a dish which I enjoyed at Wado Dining. The location is obscure, but it is far from a destination dining spot.
