Food Review: House of Chirashi At East Village, Simpang Bedok | Hole-In-The-Wall Casual Japanese Restaurant

The Place I love my Chirashi Don and Omote is my go to causal restaurant for my chirashi fix. I checked out the six months old hole-in-the-wall restaurant called House of Chirashi located in East Village in Simpang Bedok. The 9-seater restaurant can only accommodate 6 pax due to social distancing, and reservation is definitely highly recommended.

The Food Even though the space is small, the menu is extensive. There are many variations of Chirashi Don from S$21.80, sashimi, sushi and various types of Donburi with the most luxe being the A5 Wagyu Don (S$58.80). The most luxe Chirashi option is the A5 Wagyu Foie Gras Chirashi Don (S$58.80).

I went for the Chirashi Don (S$21.80), which comes with an assortment of sliced sashimi like salmon, sword fish, yellow tail, scallop, prawn, and more. One thing I notice is that the sashimi comes in very thick slices, which makes it very satisfying. The flavours of the sashimi are fresh, with my favourite being the white tuna which is marinated with much soy sauce.

The other dish I tried was the Aburi Torched Bara Don (S$16.80), a cubed sashimi version as opposed to the Chirashi Don.

The portion is also quite generous with decently sized sashimi cubes.

Rants Extremely tight space, where it is quite unlikely to be able to walk in without a reservation.

Will I Return Again? The freshness of the ingredients and portions at House of Chirashi are the highlights. I do find that the prices in general are not that competitive other than the basic Chirashi Don or Bara Don. It is worth a try if you are in the vicinity, but for an overall experience perspective, I do prefer Omote in Upper Thomson.

  2. You should try the chirashi tower for 3 pax. That is the bomb! It’s luxe and expensive but the wow factor is high and quality is top notch.
