Food Review: Wen Kang Ji Wanton Noodle At Golden Mile Food Centre | Delicious Wanton Mee & Tender Char Siew

The Place Located at the basement corner of Golden Mile Food Centre is Wen Kang Ji Wanton Noodle (文康記), a few months old stall in the popular Army Market Hawker Centre. Just a few rows from Charlie’s Peranakan Food, there was a long queue during my weekend visit which is quite a feat for a relatively new stall. Other than Golden Mile, Wen Kang Ji also has another outlet in Joo Chiat, right in the same coffeeshop as Da Dong Prawn Noodles.

The Food Choose from Wanton Noodle or Dumpling Noodle. For the Wanton Noodle, it comes in Regular (S$5) or Jumbo (S$7). I went straight for the Jumbo size as I decided to go for the full-blown experience after queuing for 20 minutes. A generous portion if you are very hungry, the noodles are delicious. Tossed in chilli sauce and dark sauce, I like the slightly firm texture.

It comes with a few pieces of big dumplings, quite different from most Wanton Noodle stalls which serve smaller size dumplings.

My favourite part though, is the glistening Char Siew. For the Jumbo size, I am satisfied with the portion of the Char Siew. You get that slightly burnt edges, and a good balance of lean meat and fat ratio.

Very tender, and a very well-marinated version. It is one of the best Char Siew in Wanton Noodles I had for a very long while.

I also ordered the Fried Wanton (S$4), perfectly crispy, and it still was even after my journey home after my takeaway.

Rants Expect a queue during lunch hours, even though the stall location is at one of the most secluded spot of the food centre.

Will I Return Again? I am very impressed by the Wanton Noodle I had at Wen Kang Ji Wanton Noodle, particularly the Char Siew. It is now one of my favourite Wanton Noodle stall and I can’t wait to head back to have the noodles at the stall itself once dining out is permissible.
