Food Review: Hambaobao At Trio Building In Jalan Besar | Popular Hip Burger Hawker Stall Reopened As Casual Restaurant

The Place Located at Sam Leong Road in Little India/Jalan Besar precinct, I checked out the newly reopened Hambaobao in Trio Building and it occupies a corner space on level 3. For those familiar with the brand, it used to be at Beauty World Food Centre few years ago before the husband-and-wife team took a hiatus. The new space in Little India precinct is much more conducive, though seats are quite limited.

In terms of the seating layout, the best tables are the ones beside the window where you get nice natural lighting.

There are also bar tables where you can overlook the open kitchen.

The Food There are five types of burgers to choose from at wallet friendly prices from S$7.50. Simply grab a table after checking in with the staff, then self-order before your food is served to you. I only managed to try one burger, and I was most interested in the Ayam Buah Keluak (S$8).

It is a pretty decent size, where you get minced chicken with rempah and chap chye. The buns aren’t greasy at all and is quite soft in texture, though I would prefer the buah keluak taste to be more intense.

Other than Ayam Buah Keluak, I heard from a foodie friend that What The Fish (S$8) is good, so that is a next time for me.

I also added the Hand-Cut Fries (S$2.50) fries to a tanned brown colour. Fresh potatoes here and do ask for chilli sauce.

There are also desserts on the menu and I had the Mama G’s Sugee (S$4.50) cake. I find this passable, as the texture was a tad too dry.

Rants Limited tables and the best bet is to reserve ahead.

Will I Return Again? Overall, it is nice to see the expansion of a hawker brand and Hambaobao is a casual concept to check out if you love some interesting burger flavours.
