Food Review: Summer Palace At Regent Singapore | Value For Money Set Lunch At The One Michelin Star Chinese Restaurant

The Place Located in Regent Singapore, Summer Palace is one of the few Michelin starred Chinese restaurants in Singapore and I visited the Cantonese restaurant for lunch recently. The interior of Summer Palace is classic oriental look, decorated with red carpet and golden pillars. I was surprised that the tables have expanded outside of the restaurant where you get a view of the hotel’s lobby.

The best seats in the house are the tables right beside the window, with a pool view.

The Food A Michelin starred Chinese restaurant may put some people off by the price tag, but I do think Summer Palace has a very good value lunch set menu. I went for the Chef Liu’s Tasting Menu and at S$68++ for a minimum of 2 persons, I was satisfied by the end of the meal.

I started with some of Chef’s Dim Sum Selection which comes with the Barbecued Pork Bun with Pine Nuts, Steamed Lobster Dumpling and Deep-fried Prawn with Mango Roll.

The next course is my favourite – Superior Chicken Soup with Dried Seafood and Chinese Cabbage in Stone Pot. For one, the portion is very generous and I love the luscious, collagen rich chicken soup. There is also something about serving soup in a hot stone pot which makes it more enjoyable.

The third course is the Oven-baked Cod Fish with Egg White and Caviar, a luxurious dish which is delicious. I like the texture of the cod, and the accompanying egg white makes it an enjoyable high protein dish. This is a value for money dish as part of the lunch set.

The last savoury dish is the Steamed Brown Rice with Baby Abalone, Chicken and Chinese Sausage in Bamboo Cup. Not much of a surprise here in terms of taste, though the presentation is cute.

The last course is a Combination of Desserts to conclude the meal.

Rants The restaurant is probably in need of an update to its interior.

Will I Return Again? Overall, I had a good lunch at Summer Palace and I highly recommend this lunch set if you are looking for a Michelin starred Chinese cuisine meal.
