Food Review: Tian Tian You Yu 天天友魚 At East Coast Road | Sichuan Grilled Fish By 972FM 玉建煌崇DJ Marcus Chin 陈建彬

The Place I visited here with my folks whom are loyal listeners to 972FM morning show 玉建煌崇, and naturally would have heard DJ Marcus Chin frequent sharing of his restaurant Tian Tian You Yu. The first branch opened at Somerset, with a focus on Sichuan food particularly Sichuan Grilled Fish dish.

The second branch is located along East Coast Road, next to the popular Beach Road Prawn Mee and recently opened café Breakfast Grill. It is a relatively small restaurant, though we spotted some private rooms probably for the various celebrities that may visit here!

The Food You have to order a Sichuan Grilled Fish at Tian Tian You Yu, perhaps not the mala one for me since I do not take well to spices. Thanks for the understanding folks whom are mala lovers, we went with the Sichuan Pickle Fish (S$46.80) on mild spices (aka 小辣). As Tian Tian You Yu’s grilled fish does not come with much ingredients, I ordered some add-ons including Black Fungus, Fresh Mushrooms, Luncheon Meat and Tofu (S$3.00 to S$4.80 each).

Always like the slightly sour taste from pickled vegetables, which is great with the superior broth and spices. The default fish is Sea Bass, which is fresh and good sized for 3-4 pax to share. Would not mind if they are more generous with the pickled vegetables to step up the flavour more.

I had to order the Tomato Scrambled Egg (S$10.80) to balance the palate here. Good take on this dish too, which I believe the chef added cream before frying the eggs to give it a more creamy texture.

I also strongly recommend the Shredded Cabbages (S$14.80) and BBQ Brinjal (S$6.80). Both are very satisfying, with the cabbages stir-fried with bacon and some spices. The brinjal is deep-fried before being drizzled with fried garlic and oil when served.

I gave the BBQ Skewers here a try too. Orders included the Beef Skewer (S$2.40), Pork Skewer (S$2.40), and Enoki with Bacon (S$5.60). If you are craving for some Sichuan skewers with chilli powder and Sichuan peppercorns, their take will not disappoint – though it is nothing exceptional as well.

Rants The service was a tad lukewarm despite us being the only table occupied for dinner service since we got in right at 5pm when the restaurant opened.

Will I Return Again? I like the Sichuan Pickle Fish here, and the generous serving of an additional large bowl of soup without requesting. Should I be craving for some Sichuan Grilled Fish, Tian Tian You Yu is definitely within one of my considerations.
