Food Review: Breakfast Hola At South Bridge Road | Casual Taiwanese Restaurant With Homemade Crepe Rolls In Chinatown

The Place Located right next to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple along a shophouse is Breakfast Hola (早餐好了), a new casual Taiwanese eatery restaurant run by Taiwanese. Decked in simple wooden and metal tables, the interior is relatively plain though homely to say the least. It is also strategically located right next to Maxwell MRT station.

The Food The menu is split into toast, sandwich, egg crepe roll, noodles and rice, and drinks. Prices are wallet-friendly with most dishes between S$4-S$5, and it features common types of breakfast items you can find in Taiwan.

I had the Egg Crepe Roll (S$4.50), which is handmade and nicely sliced into bite-size pieces for ease of eating. The texture of the crepe is not too thick, which is ideal for me. A simple option here which will not go very wrong. You can also choose from other flavours such as double cheese or tuna, and more.

The Authentic Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice (S$6.80/large) comes with a sunny side up egg, which is unfortunately overcooked as the egg was not runny at all. That said, the braised flavour on the rice could be stepped up for me as well.

I also had to try one of the toasts and decided on the Pork Floss & Egg Toast (S$5.40). Alas, this was quite disappointing, the toast is quite bland in flavour. The bread is not as crispy as I expected, and perhaps not enough butter?

For beverages, the Good Morning Milk Tea (S$2.50) is quite good. Rich flavour here, and the taste is quite authentic.

Rants Some hits and misses for the dishes I tried.

Will I Return Again? I expected more out of Breakfast Hola, especially for the toast. Not sure if I ordered the wrong option for the toast during my visit, drop by Breakfast Hola only if you are in the vicinity and in the mood for some Taiwanese bites.
