Western Australia – My road trip started from Perth, I had some good food along the way en route to Margaret River – make a stop at Fremantle for some good cafe food and beer, Busselton to check out an ex-Noma chef new cafe, and Dunsborough for some coffee break and meal stops. Here are some beautiful and delicious spots to check out before you hit Margaret River!
Good Things Fremantle
One of the cafes not to be missed in Fremantle aka Freo, the space of Good Things is charming with an alfresco outdoor space for causal coffee drinking, or the mezzanine space for a dine-in brunch. I love the New York loft vibes with its exposed red brick walls and industrial chic interior, one of my favourite cafes in my recent trip to Perth. The hotcakes are so delicious.

Bathers Beach House
A surprise find for me in Fremantle, Bathers Beach House is a very relaxed dining venue with its beachfront terrace. You get craft beer, an extensive food menu with the likes of fish and chips and fresh oysters, and ample indoor or outdoor seats. Grab and drink and chill on the deck chairs on the beach and life is perfect.

Little Creatures Brewery
Not to be missed if you are a beer lover, this is the spot to grab freshly brewed beer and have it along with grubs like fries and pizza. It is a huge compound where brewery tours are also conducted. The backyard space is charming where you can enjoy your beer in the sun.

The Fremantle store is situated within the iconic Fremantle Markets offering a wide variety of burgers and egg-filled options for a quick bite. Mainly focused on takeaways, go for their namesake The Eggspot option if it is your first time – fluffy scrambled eggs, melted cheese and homemade smoked chipotle mayo in a brioche bun sounds too good to pass.

A cafe in Busselton by ex-Noma chef? Sign me up. Yes, we are talking about Copenhagen’s Noma and Alberta’s is a surprise find in quaint Busselton. A daily rotating menu between 8am to 12pm, expect the likes of handmade scones (which are so delish), housemade granola and mulberries baked in almond cream tart. Coffee by local Five Senses Coffee, in a Nordic-inspired dining space no less. Outdoor seats available.

Merchant & Maker
An all-in-one general store, this is a popular spot in Dunsborough for fresh local produce, groceries and food. You can’t go wrong with their specialty coffee in a relaxed dining setting. The food is not so much of eggs benedict and avo toast, but rather vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and refined sugar-free options with a range of baked goods, fresh sandwiches, toasties, wraps and salads.
Address: 8/35 Dunn Bay Road, Dunsborough WA 6281, Australia
Lady Lola Deli Bar Bistro
A relatively new dining concept in the heart of Dunsborough, Lady Lola is chic and casual at the same time, serving up cold cuts and pastas in a concise food menu and elaborate wine list. A chill dining ambience to unwind in the indoor or outdoor seats.
Address: 4/16 Cyrillean Way, Dunsborough WA 6281, Australia
A popular and family run cafe located in the heart of Dunsborough, La Lah spots a cheery vibe with its bright and white interior, with outdoor seats as well. The brunch menu is extensive where you can expect your big breakfast with fresh avocado and scrambled eggs, and robust coffee to wash it down.

One of the most memorable dining spots for my trip, I love how relaxed and huge the compound of Meelup Farmhouse is. Choose for brunch, lunch or picnic hampers, the dining area is beautiful. The farm animals like alpacas, cows and chicks will delight children. Head here if you are in the Meelup Regional Park and Eagle Bay vicinity. Reservations are a must.

Eagle Bay Brewing Co
Located few minutes drive away from Meelup Farmhouse, Eagle Bay Brewing Co is a microbrewery, restaurant and vineyard tucked away on the family farm, in the northwestern corner of the Margaret River wine region. I love the spacious and open setting of the restaurant which overlooks the vast farmland. Try the different beer flavours to go along with grubs like pizza and fish and chips.
