Food Review: 1-Flowerhill At Sentosa | A Floral Landscaped Multi-Concept Dining By 1-Group Including Camille & Wildseed Café

The Place An exciting new addition to the dining landscape in Sentosa, 1-Flowerhill is the latest lifestyle F&B project by 1-Group. Located in a century-old conservation house perched on a hill at 6 Imbiah Road, 1- Flowerhill is next to Sentosa’s Mount Imbiah, a stone’s throw away from the immersive Sentosa Sensoryscape.  The location of 1-Flowerhill is a setting like no others in Singapore, since there are very limited conservation houses which are converted into dining concepts.

There are three concepts under 1-Flowerhill – the group’s signature Wildseed Café, an all-new Wildseed Bar & Grill, and refined French-Japanese restaurant Camille. Wildseed Café is located on the ground level of 1-Flowerhill with a pet-friendly floral setting with an indoor section and seats at the Grand Terrace and courtyard which blends in well with the lush surroundings. In the evening, it evolves into Wildseed Bar & Grill which serves up locally inspired hand-crafted cocktails, beers, and wines.

On level two is French-Japanese restaurant, Camille, which features an artistic kinetic light installation resembling flowers that bloom as you take the grand staircase up.

The Food I had dinner at Camille where you can expect subtle nuances of Japanese flavours with French cuisine. Beverage options include a selection of East-meets-West cocktails and a list of old-world wines, including hand-picked Champagnes.

My meal started with appetisers like the A5 Hokkaido Beef & Tuna Akami Tartare (S$42 for 2 persons). This is a land meets sea concept with a combination of the cold-smoked and hand-chopped A5 Hokkaido beef with tuna akami along with an array of condiments such as freshly grated wasabi and crispy puffed rice.

It is served tableside, and I enjoyed the flavours and texture of the elaborate assemble of ingredients where the condiments include the likes of pickled myoga, avocado, quail egg yolk, banana shallot, grated gruyere cheese, furikake, puffed rice, chiffonade ohba leaf, umeboshi, Olive oil, Ponzu, Kaviari (white sturgeon) Caviar, and Edible flowers from 1- Group’s edible garden.

If you want something light and refreshing, there is the Heirloom Tomatoes (S$26) to go for which features Australian Heirloom Tomatoes, Goat Cheese Croquettes, Shiso Sorbet and an interesting Japanese inspired Hōjicha Tomato Consommé.

If you love chawanmushi, then the Textures of Artichoke (S$28) is a must have. You get a silky texture of Sunchoke Chawanmushi with Artichoke Petal Tempura, Artichokes Barigoule, Artichoke Confit, Bacon Chips, Burnt Leek Dashi, Dill Oil, Purslane and Tonburi. It is quite a complex mix of flavours which blend quite well together.

Moving to mains, the namesake ‘Camille Garden’ (S$32) is a vegetarian option where this warm vegetarian dish features the season’s best with a rainbow of pan-fried carrots atop velvety shiro miso beurre noisette, sprinkled with edible nut soil.

For meats, I had the ‘Robbins Island’ Full Blood Wagyu Flat Iron MBS 7 (S$62) where the flavourful grilled flat iron steak is given depth from the earthiness of salt-baked celeriac infused with balsamic teriyaki and sweet confit banana shallot. Yuzu kosho sauce is also served by the side if you fancy a tinge of spicy kick with the beef.

Alternatively, there is also the Magret de Canard (S$46) which features Roasted Magret Duck Breast with marinated Plum & Heirloom Beetroot, Beetroot & Umeboshi Coulis and Ume Shiso Jus.

For seafood lovers, you can’t go very wrong with the Marseille Seafood Stewed Papilotte Style (S$45) which is a rich broth of yuzu scented bisque with an assortment of crustaceans such as mussels, scallops and prawns.

Rants The location of 1-Flowerhill can be quite inaccessible without a car.

Will I Return Again? The setting and dining ambience of 1-Flowerhill is quite apt for a romantic meal or wedding ceremony. It does feel a little out of Singapore when I stepped into 1-Flowerhill, and it is great that there is a café concept and a more refined dining concept within the same development.

This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
