Food Scoops: The Best & Most Popular Private Home Dining Experiences In Singapore

Dining out is no longer limited to restaurants these days. There are increasingly more chefs who venture into private home dining, and here are some of the hottest private dining experiences in Singapore right now.

Wala Pizza Private Dining
Chef Jenna is crazy over pizzas. Head here if you love pizzas and the creativity of Chef Jenna is amazing. Wala Pizza was only established in 2021, and Jenna is a self-taught pizza chef with a Food Science & Nutrition background. The location of Wala Pizza is in Boon Keng, and at S$186 per person, a typical menu consists of a starter, petite basil garlic pizza, main pizzas, dessert with gelato. You can expect about five main pizza slices with different and distinct flavours, where Jenna curates the flavours based on your booking selection and preferences.  [Read more here…]

Linda’s Table
One of the most popular private dining spots in Singapore, Linda is a self-taught home chef who started this private dining few years ago where her specialty is Peranakan cuisine even though she is Cantonese.  Expect dishes like Beef Rendang, Nonya Chap Chai, Sambal Prawns With Belimbing and a sinfully good Pork Lard Rice. Rhythm
Another hard to book private dining spot is Rhythm, a contemporary Japanese inspired private dining concept in Cityhall by chefs Sean and Jordan. Do not come expecting a typical Japanese meal, as there are also many other influences on the menu such as local Singaporean element. Each course is prepared with finesse and creativity, where I have been here twice and still not tired of it. 7-course menu at S$178 per person.

The Wood Ear
Located in Chua Chu Kang, there is no fixed cuisine at The Wood Ear. Instead, chef Jesper based his menu around different cuisine themes such as Italian, Cantonese, and others. I had the Cantonese menu this year and it is commendable quality where I had dishes such as Claypot Rice with Crab and Fried Lard; Chicken Prawn with Miso; and Lobster Cheddar and Calabash noodles. 8-course menu at S$125 per person.

Umami Table
Chef Will who used to hone his culinary skills at Meta, runs Umami Table, a private dining concept in Ang Mo Kio. As its name suggests, the flavours at Umami Table focuses on umami where you can expect robust flavours across the courses. The plating here is professional and restaurant standard to say the least, where each course is individually plated. The cuisine leans towards modern take on Chinese food where I have had dishes like Marmite Frog Legs ‘KFC’, Shanghai Duck ‘Cai Fan’ and Xin Jiang Roast Rack of Lamb in the past.

The Drunken Cat
A relatively new private dining concept by Chef Amanda Loo, which serves up a 6-course Japanese inspired dishes with Asian elements. Think dishes like eggplant with curry and abalone, Japanese donabe rice with beef, and tsukemen. The space is a beautiful setting on a high floor in Balestier area.

PXZA
One of the newest pizza centric private dining concepts located in Yishun, PXZA is by a self-taught Chef David who started this as a passion project. The current frequency is merely a few times a week as this is not David’s full time, where the pizzas are mainly classic flavours along with innovative flavours like pistachio and otah inspired by his personal travels and encounters. 11 pizza flavours for S$100 per pax, it is very value for money.

No Burn No Taste
One of those private dining spots where the waiting list is impossibly long, I really enjoyed my meal at NBNT and as its name suggests, Chef Sam has a philosophy that food does not taste good if it is not burnt. For about S$185 per person, you get to expect a 10-course Umami BBQ Omakase in an alfresco private terrace patio with dishes like lychee smoked umami crab, spencer gulf king prawns with burnt sambal cream, smoked waygu steak and spicy iberico pork satay. I enjoyed every dish.

劉府私房菜 Liu Fu Si Fang Cai
Located in the east in Joo Chiat area, I like  劉府私房菜 as Chef Henry elevates Singaporean dishes and injects his own unique twists on dishes we are familiar with. Think prawn paste pork belly (har cheong nan ru pork), black garlic chicken soup and an unassuming but delicious Teochew mustard vegetables with pork belly.  This is one of my favourite private dining meals as the flavours are strong and punchy. Priced at S$155 per person for about 7 dishes.

Zuzu Kitchen

Another pizza centric private dining concept, Zuzu Kitchen is helmed by Chef Julien Li, an accountant by day and pizza connoisseur by night, which started in 2021 featuring flavours from Chef Julien’s hometown of Mauritius. Expect different styles of pizza like Neapolitan, Montanara and Pizza Gourmet with unique flavours inspried from Chef Julien’s travels and heritage background. 7-course home dining Pizza Omakase is priced from S$110 per person where the location is along Amber Road.

Roof Terrace BBQ
A private dining on an open rooftop in Joo Chiat, Roof Terrace BBQ is quite a unique private dining experience in Singapore where the meats are barbecued in a traditional kamado grill using lump wood charcoal and oak firewood. Expect a variety of smoky meats and sides in traditional Texas BBQ style. Complimentary soft drinks, coffee & tea and fruits & dessert. Priced around S$75 per person

Lucky House Cantonese Private Kitchen (陶然居)
Our latest update of this popular private dining is that the next availability is in last quarter 2019. Does it make sense to reserve almost ten months ahead for a meal? Apparently so. Lucky house remains one of the few private dining at the moment which focuses on Cantonese cuisine. Chef Wong’s place is a private property along East Coast Road, where he prepares his dishes over rustic charcoal such as his signature roast duck. There are two seatings per night which fits about 10 to 12 persons in each room, where an 8-course meal is priced at S$130. Other highlights for me include the Crayfish Omelette and Concubine Chicken. [Read more here…]
Ben Fatto 95
Homemade Italian pasta? The last I heard, the waiting list for Ben Fatto 95 by Chef Yum Hwa is at least a year where his creations are inspired by regional Italian cuisines. The set menus focus on different types of pasta, priced at S$180. Some of the handcrafted pastas include Tortelli, Cappellacci and Tagliolini all’ Uovo. Flavours of the pastas are very fresh and clean overall, though I feel that portions per course can be slightly more. If you cannot wait that long, head to Forma to try his pastas instead.

Ampang Kitchen
Penang style Peranakan food? Located at a landed property in Bukit Timah, some of the signatures at Ampang Kitchen include the prawn noodles (which is only available for lunch), rojak and cendol. Dishes are prepared from scratch, with lunch priced at S$70 for six dishes, while dinner is at S$140 for nine dishes.
