The Place New hotpot restaurant alert and this time it is at Hotel Michael, Resorts World Sentosa. Quan Hotpot took over the space of the now-defunct Spanish restaurant Sugarra. The interior has not changed much fundamentally, so you can expect an elegant setting for a hotpot meal where each diner gets their own individual hotpot. To some degree, it reminds me of Bon Broth’s concept.

The Food Each broth and dish is guided by the Chinese Five Elements of flavour – sour, sweet, bitter, spicy and salty, with broth options like Singapore Laksa, Sichuan Mala, Bone Pepper, Collagen Herbal Chicken, and Traditional Congee. You can choose to go ala carte or opt for their good value set menus which starts from S$58++ per person.

Condiments are brought to the table, where the staff helped to mix the sauces for me based on my preference.

I had their 5-Elements Hot Pot Set (S$68++) which is priced competitively, and you get a curated platter of meats (beef, lamb and pork), seafood including scallops and prawns, and sustainably grown vegetables. 

I had the Sichuan Mala broth which is quite subtle and is good if you want a broth which is stronger in flavour and this version is not too spicy.  

The ingredients are generally fresh, from seafood to meat. For the 5-Elements Hot Pot Set I had, the portion is very decent if you are not too hungry, and in any case, there is always the option to order more from the ala carte menu. 

Dessert is ice cream with meringue with M&Ms which is not what I was expecting, as I thought that a light refreshing palate cleanser is more apt after a steamboat meal. Thankfully, there is also a fruit platter.

Rants Not the most convenient location to get to in town for a steamboat meal.  

Will I Return Again? The hotpot set offers good value for what it offers, where quality and flavours of the ingredients are decent. If you fancy an individual hotpot concept, this is one to check out.
