Food Review: Neon Pigeon At Carpenter Street | Modern Japanese Izakaya Restaurant & Bar

The Place Neon Pigeon is one of those restaurants in Singapore that wears its personality loudly—and unapologetically so. Tucked away in the slightly quieter stretch of Carpenter Street, this modern Japanese joint leans hard into a Tokyo-meets-izakaya-meets-Singapore-after-dark aesthetic, complete with pulsing music, dim lighting, and a buzz that feels more party than polite dinner.

The Food Expect Japanese-inspired dishes that are playful rather than traditional—punchy seasoning, generous use of umami, and flavours that are designed to excite rather than comfort.

If you do not know what to order, the restaurant also has a new Flock Feeder menu recently. Priced at S$108++ per person, you get seven dishes and two cocktails per guest, with a mix of signatures and off-menu favourites.

Here is what I had from the Flock Feeder menu:

Hamachi Roll
I started with this sushi plate of Hamachi with yuzu kosho, jalapeno, coriander and cucumber. Nothing complicated but pretty decent rolls here.

Tokyo Hummus
This was quite delicious for me as the hummus is a mix of edamame and curry chips which is very moreish.

“Otah” Prawn Toast
An easy snack to resonate with, the toast here is milk bread along with tare and yuzu kosho mayo.

Corn
A heavily seasoned corn dish with miso butter and nori powder which was a tad salty for me.

Salmon
A protein dish where the salmon here is coated with miso butter along with ikura.

Tokyo Peking Duck (half duck, good for 2pax)
I was thinking what is a Tokyo-style Peking duck and it turns out to be a big plate of roast duck dish in an expected Peking duck style presentation. The Japanese twist here lies mainly in the condiments where there are mango, black garlic miso and ponzu plum sauce to spread on the crepe.

Chocolate Trifle
For dessert, it is a cup of chocolate cake with almond brittle, dulce de leche, and whipped cream.

Rants The flavours of the dishes are quite heavy handed in general and lean towards the saltier profile.

Will I Return Again? Overall, Neon Pigeon ticks the post-work social vibes of energy with informal service. It is a restaurant that knows exactly what it wants to be: fun, bold, and good vibes. And while not every dish aims for refinement, the collective experience is probably what keeps people coming back.
