The Place One of the most recent hype in town is Saveur, a French casual dining restaurant tucked along Purvis Street, a short walk from Cityhall or Bugis MRT station. Touted as providing affordable French food, it is no wonder why Saveur is making waves despite being a fairly new establishment. However, a caveat is to avoid peak hours such as Friday/Saturday evenings or risk waiting up to an hour to be seated. I was at Saveur on a Sunday evening and the waiting time was around 30 minutes.
The Food I had the soup of the day to begin my dinner and it happened to be Potato Soup that day.
To compliment the Potato Soup, I ordered the $2 Soft Roll Bread (Choice Of Breads – Soft Roll, Hard Roll, Bioche). The highlight of my dinner has got to be the Pan Fried Foie Gras With Lentil And Pickled Onion (35g or 70g). This has got to be one of the cheapest Foie Gras I have ever had. At $7.90 (35g) or $14.90 (70g), the Pan Fried Foie Gras is a tasteful bargain.
If you are planning to have a light dinner, the Angel Hair Pasta With Tiger Prawn And Lumpfish Caviar ($3.90) is a good choice. The serving is small as it is probably meant to be served as an appetiser. Nonetheless, this means that I will have a bigger appetite to try a wider variety of dishes.
The other mains I had was the Chicken Roulade With Foie Gras Stuffing And Basmati Rice ($10.90). It was a big disappointment as I probably expected too much from it. Personally, I feel that the Chicken’s taste is very ordinary and I could not taste a single bit of Foie Gras in the dish.
Will I return again? Most likely, as I love the casual French dining concept of Saveur which I feel is lacking in the food scene in Singapore. This is the place to have a casual French lunch or dinner with your friends without having to confine to the etiquette of French fine dining.
