Food Review: Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant (Part 2)

The Place I was so impressed with Wan Hao in my previous visit that I knew I have to return again to try the Dim Sum after having the Peking Duck previously. I was looking forward with much anticipation upon learning that Wan Hao offers Dim Sum Buffet on weekends. At $32++ per person, I think that it is fairly reasonably priced, given that the Dim Sum list from the buffet menu is extremely extensive. Be sure to make prior reservations for the Dim Sum buffet as the restaurant is quite packed during weekends.

The Food I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the list of Dim Sum items which are included in the buffet. Apart from the usual suspects such as Siew Mai, Char Siew Bao and Har Gau, there is also a list of Eight Treasure Specialties and Chef Recommendations which each table is entitled to order only once. If this does not sound extensive enough, there are also Appetisers and Desserts to order which are part of the buffet spread.

On the whole, I would say that the Dim Sum standard at Wan Hao is above average, although there is inevitably some hits and misses.

Get ready for some eye feasting while browsing the pictures below!

Sichuan peppercorn foie gras – As a Foie Gras lover, I must say this Chinese rendition of the dish is awesome! The Foie Gras simply melts in your mouth.

Steamed xiao long bao foie gras – This is my first time tasting Foie Gras Xiao Long Bao and it is amazing to taste the Foie Gras as it spurted in my mouth.

Roasted Pork Belly – One of the Appetisers listed on the menu, a must order for Pork lovers.

Scallops with prawns – Love the fresh Scallops.

Braised beef tendon claypot

Minced beef broth, crabmeat, straw mushrooms, Savoury egg white

Deep fried taro dumpling, prawn, monkey-head mushrooms

Marinated duck wings, Teochew style

Siew Mai
Har Gau
Baked honey-glazed pastry BBQ pork

Deep fried almond dumpling, minced shrimp, foie gras

And this list is not at all exhaustive. There is alot more Dim Sum dishes listed on the menu which TheRantingPanda thinks is better for you to find out yourself!

Rants To be honest, there is no real reason to rant about anything bad apart from some hits and misses in the menu.

Will I return again? I am glad that I came for the Dim Sum buffet in a group of 4 as I managed to try most of the Dim Sum dishes on the menu, which is otherwise an almost impossible feat for a couple to stomach. However, I will not return again so soon for the Dim Sum buffet simply because the novelty has waned for me after the first time. I will probably be back to try their other dishes on the menu, or predictably the Peking Duck once again.
