Food Review: Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant | Celebrating 20 glorious years at Marriott Singapore

The Place We last reviewed on Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant back in 2012, and how fast time has flown by. This year, Wan Hao will be celebrating their 20th Anniversary, and from now to end July, they will be showcasing their Best Signatures over the past two decades! For now, before you head over to Marriott Singapore, sit back and enjoy the feast with your eyes!

The Food If any, the Crispy Suckling Pig with Prawn Paste ($30) stands out as of the best Suckling Pig I ever had. Not kidding. With Suckling Pig being popular (almost solely) for its crispy texture, its singular taste and oily nature has made many stayed away from this delicacy. But Wan Hao’s version combines the pig skin with another favourite of many – the Prawn Paste! Dip this into their signature sauce, and ….. ! A deserving appetizer to kickstart its signature menu!

I am in awe of chinese soups. And Wan Hao’s Double-Boiled Winter Melon Soup with Assorted Seafood ($18) once again proves my love for it ain’t unwarranted. Simple, yet packed with much warmth as with every sip. One downside though, the price tag for double-boiled soups are generally quite steep in fine Chinese restaurants.

You know we love our red meats, and this Wok-Fried Australian Beef Tenderloin & Chilled Sour Plum Pear with Light Wasabi Sauce ($30) has infused Chinese, Japanese and Western into one dish.

Braised Asparagus Fresh Crab Meat & Crab Roe with Egg White Sauce ($28), it’s a healthier option for sure. If you like your crunchy asparagus, this will definitely be an excellent rendition.

Someone’s favourite, the Wok-Fried Lotus Leaf Rice & Waxed Meat ($12) done al dente.

Will definitely recommend this dessert – the Cold Lemongrass Jelly, Red Wine Granite & Diced Dragon Fruit ($13) right after a very filling meal! Lemongrass jelly has been trending in recent years as a cooling jelly and rightfully so!

Rants And there it is, 20 years of signatures. But I much prefer celebration with new creations for the next 20 years?

Will I return again? Wan Hao always promises a good Chinese meal and it definitely ranks itself amongst the best in Singapore. Head in for its lunch buffet on weekends too, savour their dim sum and a couple of their key highlights from its ala carte menu ($68 per pax).
