Food Review: The HandBurger

The Place This review comes pretty late, considering that The HandBurger (THB) has been around in the local food scene for some time. Still, there is always a philosophy of better late than never. It was not my first time to THB but it is my first time there recently as a food critic. The HandBurger prides positions itself as serving affordable gourmet burgers, and to a large extent I feel that it has fulfilled its mission statement.

The Food Needless to say, the burgers are the star dish here at The HandBurger, especially the beef burgers.

For some light bites, we had the Calamari ($9.80) which I think is one of the best around. The serving is generous and the calamari is very crispy and addictive. Apart from that, the calamari ring is huge and not merely coated with a thick layer of flour. This is highly recommended for sides.

For my drink, I had the Nutella Milkshake ($4.50), which I can only sum it up in one phrase: to-die-for. This is probably the best Nutella Milkshake I have tasted in my life. It is not so thick with nutella that it makes you feel you overwhelmed, as the concentration is just right. The fluffy marshmallows is also a great compliment to this heavenly creation.

I also tried the Strawberry Milkshake ($4.50), which proves to be a pleasant choice as well. I like the right mix of the milkshake, as some Strawberry milkshake tend to be overly sweet and rich. A must try if you are a fan of this.

As for mains, I had the highly recommended THB X Burger ($20.80), which is apparently the star dish on the menu. Each burger comes with a choice of either fries, salad or soup. The grain-fed beef burger from New Zealand was topped with onion rings and bacon. To be honest, I was not very impressed by this burger despite it being the star choice. I find that the beef is not very tender and it does not really give me the impression that it is of good quality.

Another mains we had was the The Works Burger ($17.80), which has less toppings compared to the THB X Burger above. I added the sunny-side up egg and mushrooms for this, which is not usually included in this order. I feel that this is a more value for money option as I feel that the beef is more tender than in the THB X Burger.

Rants I seriously do not have any rants about The HandBurger, as I think it is a very value for money burger joint around. For the price I am paying, I am prepared not to expect a Wagyu beef quality served here.

Will I return again? There are many burger joints in Singapore but not many which offer quality burgers at affordable prices. For this sole reason, I will be back again.
