Food Review: Toby’s Estate | Robertson Quay’s resident cafe

The Place Long before Common Man Coffee Roasters, there is Toby’s Estate at Robertson Quay which has been a long popular cafe for good coffee. The Australian based Toby’s Estate roast its own coffee here, and it also supplies its roasted beans to other cafes such as The Providore. It is really packed on a Sunday afternoon when theRantingPanda visited Toby’s Estate, which I waited for about 15 minutes. I like the interior of the cafe, which has high ceiling. It’s location just next to the Singapore River also add to the chill-lax ambience of the cafe.
IMG_1655The Food The coffee is the real star of Toby’s Estate, but that said, they serve brunch such as Eggs Benedict and sandwiches as well. I heard mixed reviews about the food and overall, I am disappointed that the food is really average, at least for the items I tried.
IMG_1635The crowd’s favourite Toby’s Breakfast ($18) comes with poached or scrambled eggs, grilled tomatoes, toast, truffle sauteed mushrooms and espresso maple bacon, which is especially crispy and addictive. Sadly, the poached eggs and the bland toast is nothing to shout about.
IMG_1653The other recommended dish I had was the BaconEgg Croissant (12), which comes with scrambled eggs and the espresso maple bacon. The croissant is surprisingly crispy and buttery, which makes me conclude that this dish is worth ordering.
IMG_1642How can I not have a cup of coffee at Toby’s Estate? My Flat White ($5) is rich in body, and has good acidity.
The standard of the food I tried is average, and I have had much better ones in other cafes around Robertson Quay. It also seems that Toby’s Estate does not accept reservations, as I called multiple times without any response.

Will I return again? Only for the coffee on my next visit. Overall, it is still a nice chill-lax cafe to laze the weekend away.
