New Restaurants

Le Shrimp Ramen
Another new dining concept by Paradise Group, Le Shrimp Ramen is a fusion of Chinese La Mian and Japanese ramen with its first outlet at the basement of Paragon in Orchard Road. The setting of Le Shrimp Ramen is casual and there similar to LeNu by the same group, noodles is one of the focus. The concept is quite interesting as it marries Chinese and Japanese elements. With its location right smack in Orchard Road, it makes a good choice for a casual meal in town. [Read more here…]

Ristr8to
First tried Ristr8to coffee in Chiang Mai, and am pleasantly surprised that it has made its way to Singapore. It is also a surprise that this award winning brand from Thailand chose to open in the obscure Chef Avenue Food Court in Tai Seng. Having said, the coffee is good, though the location is quite an offbeat choice. It will be a destination of its own for coffee seekers in this industrial area. [Read more here…]

Omote
If you love value for money Chirashi Don, Sushiro should be a familiar name. Meet the one week old Omote, a modern and contemporary space located at level 3 of Thomson Plaza. This brand new concept is the brainchild of the previous Sushiro, which has ceased to operate as a brand and its previous locations in the same mall. With a more extensive menu now, Omote offer more than what Sushiro used to, although not all selections are as affordable as the cheap and good signature Chirashi Don. Hiryu
Hiryu is a relatively new contemporary Japanese restaurant along Tras Street which focuses on Omakase and ala carte dishes. Hiryu literally means flying dragon, and is helmed by Chef Raymond Tan whom previously held stints at Sushi Jin and Sushi Murakami. Lunch Omakase Set starts from S$128++, while dinner Omakase starts from S$188++. Otherwise, you can go for the ala carte selections which are quite well-varied. Signature dishes include the Hiryu Wagyu Sando and Hiryu Premium Don which has ingredients like Mizazaki wagyu beef, sea urchin and ikura. [Read more here…]

MO Bar
Previously known as Axis Bar, Mandarin Oriental Singapore has a new chic dining concept, MO Bar. Located on level four of the hotel as Melt Cafe, MO Bar spots a chic and contemporary look with views of the Singapore Skyline. In the day, it serves Afternoon Tea and is the space where you can get your cup of coffee and tea snacks. By the evening, this space becomes a night spot where you get a pretty interesting mix of bar bites and speciality concocted cocktails. [Read more here…]

Sushi Ayumu
Located in Mandarin Gallery in Orchard Road, Sushi Ayumu specialises in traditional Edo or Tokyo style sushi, helmed by Head Chef Ryoichi Nakatani, who was previously from Sushi Roku Roku in Grand Hyatt Tokyo. Ayumu means walking towards a new beginning in Japanese, and Sushi Ayumu symbolises that ideology as it is a rebranded concept from the previous Hashida Sushi. There are not many fine dining Japanese restaurant in Singapore like Sushi Ayumu, as the entrance is extremely mysterious. There is no sign of how the restaurant looks from the outside, but once I stepped in, it feels like I am transported to Japan. [Read more here…]

The Mast’ of Mozzarella & Co.
Located at the brand new Frasers Tower right opposite Amoy Food Centre, The Mast’ of Mozzarella & Co. is a relatively new casual Italian restaurant which was founded in Rome in 2015. Other than Singapore which is its third outlet, it also has an outlet in Hong Kong which opened this year. The Mast’ means cheese master in Southern Italian dialet, where you can easily guess what is the forte of the restaurant. Cheese is definitely one of the highlights of here, with a dedicated cheese laboratory which produces fresh mozzarella, burrata and stracciatella daily. Other than indoor dining, there is also an outdoor space for a different ambience. [Read more here…]

Renovated Crystal Jade Jiang Nan reopens at Vivocity
Located at level one of VivoCity, Crystal Jade Jiang Nan recently went through a revamp of its space and menu, along with its new Group Executive Chef Martin Foo. If you have difficulty finding it, walk towards to the end of the mall near the pick up point. The new look of Crystal Jade Jiang Nan is vastly different from my memories of dining here previously. It is more contemporary and elegant, with subtle references to the Jiang Nan region like the mountain murals on the wall. And if you like marble table tops with wood, you have it here too. The Japanese yakiniku restaurant at Stevens Road has introduced a new Omakase menu recently, where there is a good balance of grilled meats and other appetisers. The multi-course menu at The Gyu Bar include the likes of Scallop Croquette drizzled with sea urchin sauce, the signature Uni Yukke Cone, and one of the best fried rice around, the Ishiyaki Beef Fat Fried Rice.

Curate’s New Winter Menu promises to a trip down the German wintertime
The new 8-course dinner Winter Menu at the fine dining restaurant in RWS is hugely inspired by Chef Halat’s winter memories in Germany. Expect treats and snacks before the mains at Curate, starting from some German mulled wine enjoyed at the wine cellar space of the restaurant. Other highlights of the winter menu include Chef Halat’s signature soufflé egg and the Vacherin Mont D’or cheese.
