New Restaurants

Koma Singapore
Located at the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands just beside the entrance of Marquee Singapore, the entrance to Koma Singapore is perhaps amongst the grandest of restaurants in Singapore. Lined by tens of red Japanese Torii gates, the 20 meters long entrance walkway resembles that of Kyoto’s Fushimi Inari Shrine, and that is perhaps the first impression the restaurant wants diners to have. Noka by Open Farm Community
Located in the revamped Funan mall, Noka is the latest concept by Spa Esprit Group, and it occupies the rooftop level of the mall. The name Noka means farmhouse in Japanese, which is apt because it is Singapore’s first rooftop urban farm-to-table Japanese restaurant, beside the urban farm area managed by Edible Garden City. It is also the sister restaurant to Open Farm Community in Dempsey, and the Japanese restaurant is helmed by Head Chef Seki Takuma from Niigata prefecture. Chef Seki has more than 20 years of culinary experience around the world, and he brings to the table traditional Japanese cooking techniques. (Read more here…)

Beurre
A restaurant which quietly opened along Bukit Pasoh Road, Beurre aims to offer innovative French cuisine for the masses. The prices are relatively accessible, with most dishes at less than S$30. The Capellini with Uni and Caviar left an impression, as well as the Peanut Butter Tart. Some hits and misses, which would hopefully get better with time. (Read more here…)

Sushiro
Japan’s Number One Kaiten Sushi Chain opened in Tiong Bahru Plaza last month, and it offers a fuss-free conveyor belt dining experience. Each plate starts from S$2.20 with limited time promotions like the Otoro (fatty tuna) available at this price. The quality is pretty decent for the price point. (Review coming soon…)
Address: 302 Tiong Bahru Road, #02-118, Singapore 168732

Tong Xi Ru Yi
It was closed briefly, but the reopened Tong Xin Ru Yi boasts a much bigger space and it restaurant exudes an art gallery vibe, all thanks to the owner’s collection of Chinese art pieces. The soup bases here are unique, where you can expect the likes of Golden Chicken Soup and Stewed Marinated Beef with Spicy Soup. Another interesting bit is that there are already ingredients that comes within the soup base, such as beef tendons and beef meat chunks for the Spicy Soup. (Review coming soon…)

11 Hamilton
Taking over the space of what was previously Hustle, 11 Hamilton is a brand new cafe in the Jalan Besar and Lavender precinct around the corner from Chye Seng Huat Hardware. There are two entrances to the cafe, with the main entrance from Hamilton Road, as well as a backdoor entrance. The space is split into an events space, as well as the cafe space proper. Starter Lab
Originally from Canggu, Bali, Starter Lab is a popular bakery on the Indonesia island which recently opened its second outlet right on our shores. Located in a shophouse along Havelock Road, the small space was packed with bread lovers on the weekend I visited. The open kitchen at the back takes up almost half the space where you can watch the bakers kneading the bread. For diners, there is a long communal table at the centre, or you might have to keep your eyes open on the next available table. (Read more here…)

Kimme’s New Menu Impresses Yet Again
The one year old restaurant along Amoy Street boasts a brand new menu, with dishes being more hearty and more ideal for sharing. Kimme’s menu is segmented into snacks, appetisers, mains and desserts, with some of our favourites being the Hokkaido Uni with Kimchi, Fried Cauliflower with Korean Sweet Chilli and the Homemade XO Capellini Pasta with King Prawn. Don’t miss out on desserts too, where we tried the Date Mille-Feuille with White Chocolate. (Read more here…)

Prego Spots A New Look With New Head Chef
After a long hiatus, Prego at Fairmont Singapore finally reopened with a brand new, and we would say, a fresher new look. The new Head Chef Mauro Sanna retains some of the old classics such as the Prego pizza, though you can also expect brand new dishes like Gorgonzola Papparadelle and Slow Roasted Pork Belly. Pastas are all handcrafted, while the pizzas are prepared over traditional wood fire.
