Food Review: Sushiro At Tiong Bahru Plaza | Japan’s No. 1 Kaiten Sushi Chain Opens in Singapore

The Place Located in Tiong Bahru Plaza, Sushiro is Japan’s No. 1 Kaiten (read: conveyor belt) Sushi Chain, and the Singapore outlet which opened last month is the first in South-East Asia. The Tiong Bahru outlet is quite big, and the design of the seats are ideal for individuals or groups up to four people. This is not to be confused with what was previously known as Sushiro in Thomson Plaza, which is now rebranded as Omote.

The Food There are more than 100 varieties of sushi and side dishes on the menu, with prices from S$2.20. The ingredients are imported from Japan, and I feel that the strongest proposition of Sushiro is that the quality of the sushi is good value.

There is an opening promotion for the Fatty Tuna (S$2.20/usual price is S$4.80) and Sea Urchin (S$4.80), while best sellers in Japan include the likes of Tuna (S$2.20), Salmon Roe (S$3.20) and Yellowtail (S$3.20).

In general, the ingredients are fresh, though the texture of the sushi rice could be firmer. Some of my favourites are the Salmon with Cheese (S$2.20) and Fatty Tuna (S$4.80).

Other side dishes include the likes of tempura options and chawanmushi.

Rants Big groups might find it tough to have a meal here as there aren’t big tables to accommodate.

Will I Return Again? For a fuss-free sushi dining experience, Sushiro is worth trying. For its price, I can’t rant much over the quality and for that, this might go into our list of Best Affordable Japanese Restaurants in Singapore.

This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.

  1. for the price, I would actually NOT wait for 15mins!! And the quality is so-so only… the Uni was terrible… it was smelly and did not have the ‘sea’ taste. Seriously, not worth returning.

    • It is conveyor-belt sushi chain, albeit a chain from Japan itself. Good to manage the expectations.

Having said, we did enjoy ourselves during our visit though, and found the pricing reasonable.
