Food Review: Eat 3 Bowls (呷三碗) At North Bridge Road | Authentic Taiwanese Eats With Drool-Worthy Lu Rou Fan

The Place Located at North Bridge Road, this Taiwanese restaurant Eat 3 Bowls is one of the few authentic Taiwanese street food diner in Singapore. Designed with a classroom setting in mind, Eat 3 Bowls has tables and chairs which will remind you of school (that’s if you studied in Taiwan) and you will spot a couple of school bags hanging on the chairs as well.

The Food If your dialect is hokkien, you will perhaps get the play on the restaurant name by now, and obviously the signature item here will ask for you to Jiak Sa Wa (呷三碗); or for the non-hokkiens, Eat 3 Bowls.

The Signature 3 Bowls (S$15) set here will get you mini-bowls of 3 signature Taiwanese eats, including the Braised Pork Rice, Chicken Rice and Intestine Mee Sua. The set comes complete with a Taiwan Bubble Tea Latte (Black Tea / Green Tea / Oolong Tea, ala carte S$3.80) of your choice. Or you can even go for the now trendy Brown Sugar Bubble Tea Latte (ala carte S$3.80)!

The Braised Pork Rice (Lu Rou Fan, 滷肉飯) is very fragrant, and you get a very good balance of the pork lard on the rice too. Not too salty, this is my favourite of the 3 bowls.

The Intestine Mee Sua is a close second, perhaps because Ranter left all the intestine for me to savour. No gaminess from the innards, with the Mee Sua’s taste brighten up with vinegar, this well executed local Taiwanese noodle dish will make you craving for more.

Perhaps the Chicken Rice will make you slightly underwhelmed though. While the lor zup (braised sauce) on the rice remains very much appetising, the chicken strips came across as rather bland.

If you know what you want, then just go for the Braised Pork Rice Set (S$8). The set comes complete with a Braised Egg and Braised Chinese Cabbage, ensuring you get to savour a complete Taiwanese meal.

Rants The classroom setting tables and smaller-than-usual chairs are not the most comfortable of settings.

Will I Return Again? This is one Braised Pork Rice which will make be drool over for. Will be back, that’s for sure.
