The Place Located in Killiney Road, Da Shi Jia Big Prawn Mee is a contemporary eatery which serves one of the most iconic local hawker dish, prawn noodles. The eatery is right opposite Singtel Shop Comcentre, and it is fully air-conditioned if you are concerned about the heat. The concept is fairly modern, as the family business is currently run by the younger generation.

The Food As it was my first visit, I just had to order the signature dish here, the Da Shi Jia Wok-Fried Big Prawn White Bee Hoon (S$16.80). The unique part about this dish is that it is a dry version, as the bee hoon is wok-fried while the soup is served on a separate bowl.

The dry bee hoon is full of wok hei flavor, which is nice. I also appreciate the fact that the soup is refillable at no additional charge, where the prawn broth is rich and sweet. Needless to say, I requested for a few rounds of soup refills.

I also tried the Prawn Noodle (S$9.80) Soup, where the price is from S$5.80 to S$16.80 depending on the size and portion of prawns. You can customise the type of noodles you fancy, from Thin Bee Hoon to Kway Teow or Yellow Noodles. In terms of flavour, it is a competent bowl of prawn noodles where the broth is reasonably rich. That said, I still feel that something is lacking, like it could have been better with more umami. We do prefer Wah Kee’s rendition of the soup version here.

Rants Don’t come expecting the typical hawker centre prices.

Will I Return Again? Granted, Da Shi Jia’s prawn noodles is not too bad. I like the wok-fried version better, though I wouldn’t head back for the normal prawn noodles soup.
