Food Review: Twenty Eight Cafe At Wilkie Road | Beautiful And Spacious Cafe, Disappointing Food And Coffee

The Place Opened more than a year ago, Twenty Eight Cafe along Wilkie Road boasts a space which is rare in Singapore. The cafe is located near Selegie and Peace Centre, with a high ceiling, industrial minimalist look. It was a good first impression at least.

I like how the interior is designed as it takes into account different group sizes. There is a communal table for big groups, or you can settle for the couple seats by the window. Everyone is happy.

The Food For the menu, it is fairly extensive. It is mainly divided into brunch, all-day, dinner and dessert sections, though I would say there is any particular dish which shout out to me.

I came before lunch, so was in the mood for the Truffle Eggs Benedict (S$18). Yes, I can be predictable and boring. What’s not to like about truffle hollandaise sauce, avocado, poached eggs, bacon and brioche? Well, it all goes downhill from here. Disappointment is probably an understatement, as there is no hint of truffle element in the hollandaise sauce which for a lack of a better word, I call bland. As for the brioche, it is rather tasteless as well. No ingredient shines here at all.

I also tried a Flat White which was disappointing. The coffee lacks any punch, or acidity notes.

Rants If only the quality of food and coffee matches to the space.

Will I Return Again? I like the space at Twenty Eight Cafe and there is so much potential for this cafe. It might just be the dishes I tried, but my visit was far from good.
