Food Review: Chef Lam’s Restoran At Sultan Gate | Have You Seen A Twin Tower Sheng Mian Before?
The Place Originally a hawker stall at Golden Mile Food Centre, Chef Lam’s Restoran relocated to a shophouse space along Sultan Gate just last month. The halal casual eatery takes up a relatively small and narrow space, while offering Singaporean Zi Char dishes at a relatively affordable price.
The Food The simple menu is not that extensive, and the fish head is the signature dish here. I wasn’t in the mood for fish head dishes during my visit, so I tried some of the simple Zi Char fares. The Salted Egg Chicken (S$12/small) stays true to its name where you get tender chicken cubes coated with strong salted egg flavour.
My favourite dish however, is the Seafood Crispy Noodle (S$10), also one of Chef Lam’s signature dish. It is interesting to spot a twin tower version on the menu, hence I went for it where the crispy noodles are erected on the plate. Overall, the noodles is delicious along with the sauce.
Other dishes I had were the Sweet Clam in Superior Broth (S$12) and Sambal Kang Kong (S$8). The clams come in the broth or sambal version, and I had the broth version which probably goes better with rice.
The Kang Kong, on the other hand, was unimpressive and this is one dish to skip.
Rants The cramped space makes it slightly uncomfortable dine in.
Will I Return Again? If you are in the vicinity and craving for a decent Zi Char option, Chef Lam’s Restoran is worth trying.
